DSG Fluid

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I religiously service my every year, irrespective of whether or not its done 15000kms (service interval as per manual).  My car has done 4 years and about 51K kms.  I feel the DSG oil needs to be changed.  What are your recommendations from your experiences, should I change is ASAP or wait till 60K kms, for thats what the manual mentions, 4 years/60K kms.

Furthermore, I've seen the local Skoda dealers using ATF fluid while my understanding is that DSG fluid is pretty different from the regular ATF fluid.

Please suggest.

regards,

Nitin

Is it a 6 speed wet clutch DSG that you have?

Its a 6-speed DSG, not sure whether its a wet/dry clutch.  Its a 2012, L&K TDI model.

6-speed DSG is wet, very specific fluid for these boxes, part number G052182A2, you will need 6 litres.

Personally I'd get it done (just had mine done at 70k miles and it was previously done at 45k miles) for peace of mind, especially as it's not been done in 4 years.

If it is is 6sp (wet clutch) DSG, about 60k kms / 40k miles. You are close to that now, so anytime from now on but don't exceed the interval.

DSG fluid is nothing like or similar to ATF fluid and certainly not substitutable.  The transmission operates entirely differently from an old generation auto box which is why the fluid is different.

The skoda garage may be servicing some older generation boxes with the ATF.

The DSG oil is expensive you have very few choices in brands to get the correct spec oil. Genuine is usually the way to go, Pentosin FFL-2 may be ok too but worked out pricier when I tried to source.

For 6 Litres and an oil filter and rubber o ring (for filter) you are looking at at least £100+ in parts in the UK and dealers normally charge ~£170 all in which makes it quite cost effective given the time to do it yourself.

@TheClient: I've seen the car service receipt of a friend of mine, where it does mention ATF fluid and charged pretty much the same as what you'd quoted.  I guess its a malpractice followed in India.

It would be diabolical to do so. It is much thinner and completely different make up to DSG Oil.  I would imagine the transmission and clutch assembly would start failing within 50miles.  Maybe their vehicles used old generation conventional torque convertor transmissions?

Also, FYI, I should of said also that you only really need 5 Litres of DSG fluid for a change using about 4.5Litres, even though every Skoda dealer in this country seems to suggest you need 6 Litres!

Hi Everyone!

Just replaced the DSG oil.  I was surprised that there was only 2.5 liters of DSG oil left in the system though the car had just done 51000 kms.  When replacing, the gearbox took 6 liters of oil - I personally supervised the installation.

Though there was hardly any noticeable difference after the DSG oil replacement.

That would imply a fluid leak.  I just changed mine and I can concur with pretty much all DIY posts out there. About 4.5 litres drained out and replaced.  A dry fill in a rebuild scenario is circa 6 litres.  Did they bring the car up to temp and whilst running let the excess drain out the plastic snorkel located inside the drain plug hole to confirm correct level. There is no other way to confirm level other than replacing what is taken out and at similar temps.
