I had an oil leak from my tandem pump so I fitted a new engine to tandem pump gasket yesterday. All seems dry now, but time will tell.

 

But a question How does the vacuum pipe come off ? I thought it simply pulled off but I was pulling hard, it would not pop off. Tried to lever off from pump body, still no joy.

 

So I just left it connected. Bottom fuel return hose too. I just had enough room to remove old gasket, clean up and fit a new gasket.

 

But if I ever have to fully remove the pump I'm interested how to disconnect it.

Warm up the pipe to get it a bit more pliable. The connection onto the pump should be metal. I used a pair of water pump pliers to loosen the pipe (just twisted it back and forth) then worked it over the collar on the connector.

I'm still not sure. I agree with what you say if it was just a normal hose. Mine is more like a spark plug cap, hard plastic and it can rotate.

Ah, that's different to my old car, mine just had a normal rubber hose.
