coil warning light and limp mode

Featured Replies

Hello chaps and chappesses,

I have just had a warning light and limp home experience and wondered if anyone else has had the same snag.

I have a 2011 140cr superb diesel and whilst on the M25 the car went into limp and the coil light started flashing on the dash, I stopped for minute; and it cleared, only to come back 5mins later. wen I stopped again and drove a short distance it remained ok.

Any input would be most gratefully received

In the book it says its a glow plug snag/engine management

E.G.R !!! £900 Is this expensive seems a bit steep even for a dealer?!  :|

Sounds about right to me, its an expensive part and its a PITA to change.

Can try engine cleaners like Forte and BG244 coupled with an Italian tune up (aka 3k+ revs when engine is fully warm).

Managed to clear my EGR with that, but suspect I'm probably on the lucky side...

Get a quote from an independant  and ask how much to clean it for you.

Yep the EGR is a pretty big job and the EGR valve on this car has the electrics/controller module attached to it as well so not as simple as they used to be on the old PD engines. From what I've seen said it's a pretty common issue with a dodgy seal on the control module that allows fluid in which then buggers up the electrics that causes the failure.

Mine went just after I bought the car so it was covered under the approved used warranty but the service chap said it would have been around the £1100-£1200 mark and that was 2 years ago.

Seems like you guys were correct about the price, I did get quotes from independents and Skoda did bring the price down a fair bit, which i thought was pretty decent, seeing as tho they didn't have to, and they gave me a courtesy car and the two year parts guarantee and it was all done pretty swiftly too, so no complaints really.

Just to add another example - coil light started flashing and then into limp home, drove ok to garage next day where they stuck the diagnostic on and came back with new EGR required. Not sure on cost as done under warranty, but seems other forums agree on circa £1300 to replace (5-6 hours labour!)

Can the EGR's be removed on these, i.e when (not if) they fail they can simply be blanked off / mapped out?

I believe so, but I've heard the knock on effect on the DPF could be problematic - don't really understand the relationship between the two

Will let someone more knowledgable speak to that!

That's OK, if the DPF starts playing up then that can come off aswell!

you can remap them and blank it , but then youre left with the dpf , you're not allowed to remove them now and leave it out, it's an mot failure . That's if they notice, if they don't you're laughing
