Consumers shows Air Con even when not on

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a MY16 Octavia SE L, 2.0 diesel.  So, when i have the fans and temp on manual, the consumers list on the dash (to show high power consumers) shows air con on, even though it isn't.  i set the temp high enough that it is heating and it still says Air Con is on.  Only way it disappears is if i push off.  I know sometimes manufacturers put the air con on, especially if setting the screen to clear, but even if i turn the air off from directing to the screen, it still shows Air Con as on.  During all this, the actual air con button is not illuminated.  Any ideas guys as if i am missing something and the air con is on all the time, i don't want to be wasting fuel!

Mine does the same! Petrol vrs. I was wondering if the air con was failing to disengage but haven't had the time to take it back to dealer.

You have to turn the heater blower off to remove it from the list, the blower motor itself is a high current consumer.

There's no such thing as 'disengaging' with these systems, or any used by VAG in the last 10 years as they haven't used clutch based systems in a long time. Its always running and uses a variable displacement pump which is much more efficient.

Besides which, its good to leave it in automatic permanently as it acts as a dehumidifier to keep the car dry. Models with climate control will have a humidity sensor for this purpose.

Air Conditioning is not just "Air Cooling" it also conditions the air so can be enabled in a number of situations.

e.g. when the air is humid it is active to remove the moisture from the air to prevent condensation etc

I would recommend you leave AC always on & let the climate system manage when it is activated.

The effect on fuel consumption is really quite minimal.

Thanks for the info. Glad to hear it's me and not the car!

Thanks everyone, very useful info!  So the auto setting on the climate control, does everyone find that very good?  I don't fully understand what it is doing, does anyone have any explanation?

The climate control monitors air humidity and cabin temperature to maintain the best settings to keep the temperature at the setting you want. To do this it will change air flows throughou the vents, so if it's too hot it will switch on A/C and direct air through the vents in the dash. If it's to cold it redirects through the floor vents. It will also notice if the humidity on the windscreen is high and redirect hot and dehumidifies air through the Demister vents. As said before it uses minimal fuel and is best left on

Brilliant, thanks, will leave Auto on!

I think that consumers list is something I have switched off. Too many menus. I leave the aircon on auto and only occasionally have overridden it.

+1 on above.

Consumers list turned off (saves a fortune)  :smirk:

I'm always amazed that you can equate a current draw to fuel economy. If the battery is always charging them how does turning on the mirror heater equate to a tenth of an eighth of a gallon?
