Buckled wheels...

Featured Replies

Had mine serviced today (2014 FL Elegance combi) on 38,000 miles. 18 wheels (can't remember the name of them)

A nasty shock when i picked it up was that apparently all 4 wheels a re buckled? 1 badly...

This seems odd- I've never known that before on any car I've had.

I can understand the bad one which came from a monster flooded pothole...pain but the other 3?

Anyone else experienced this and where can I buy a new one(s).

Nothing on Superskoda

Help!

You should be able to get them corrected at a wheel specialist./Refurber
I needed a 18" merc wheel straightened cost me about £25 total.

Skoda alloys are renowned for for being weak, especially the bigger diameters such as 18 and 19 inch. You can thank the elastic-band-thin profile tyres for that.

If you can live without the more attractive appearance of 18's then put the refurb / replacement money on some smaller alloys with higher profile and more absorbent tyres. This is what I did, I'm running 17's...

It is odd to have all four wheels damaged, I think I might be inclined to have them looked at by another garage/ tyre supplier before parting with any cash. Has your garage volunteered to sort them for you ? Was it Halfords :x

Just checked and they are Trinity wheels.

Yes the dealer has offered to sort it at £800 odd quid. As if.

It's a difficult one really to decide on. 18's look nice but always prone especially down country lanes where we live.

The "bad" buckle I understand as that hidden pot hole really did give it a bang.

I like the idea of having them straightened- presumably on sort of lathe?

Failing that then yes, maybe smaller ones....

This is all too common on the roads I regularly drive. Easy to spot in this photo, the day after in the sunshine. However I hit it in the depths of a dark winters night.

This pothole isn't a one-off, the whole 6 mile stretch of road is the same...

This is what it did to the low profile tyres on my old Octavia vRS...

Enough was enough, the roads aren't going to improve in the short to medium term. This was why I fitted smaller wheels and larger profile tyres to the Superb.

Can't be chewed doing this at the side of the road several times a year...

That pothole I hit was in the middle of the road and I'm convinced it was more like a sink hole....

I know what you mean though it's a very expensive business keep swopping and changing tyres especially this time of year

From £45 in your area

At least 2 of our 18" Termistos are buckled, I can only just feel it on a glass smooth road over 70mph. Its better if the buckled ones go on the rear if you have to run them temporarily.

The last time we had a flat tyre (have had more than I've ever had with this Skoda) I put the 16" spare on and liked the cheap/stealth black steel spare.... but 17"s is the best option I reckon, and you might find a set of used 17" VW/Skoda/Audi wheels cheap.
