Suspension mod or Re map first ?

Featured Replies

My gut feeling says that the suspension should be upgraded first, obviously it will help on arrival of the re map, but, because the re map (AmD one click) is pretty expensive, I have the money now to go for it and within the next couple of months maybe get the suspension sorted out (Eibachs). If the map was done first, will the car be OK with the standard suspension for the mean time ? Cheers.

Suspension first if you've got the choice.

I have the AMD One-click on standard suspension.

Eibachs are being fitted on Saturday - and I never intended to change the suspension at all. ;)

Its fine, really it is. Depends on your driving style of course.

However, I find myself pushing the car more and more - the power is addictive. And in the twisties, its just to wallowy. High speed slight corners (100mph corners ;) ) really don't inspire confidence either.

I really just want it to feel more sporty, and just give that little bit less body roll.

standard suspension is fine. once you fit the eibach's though you will notice how much more controlled the car is. But to be honest, if I didnt want to lower the ride height from a 4x4 then I probably would of never done it.

I would go suspension first :D - that is what i did.

Suspension first without a doubt (imho of course)

Suspension first. You'll notice that with replacement suspension, you reduce the pitch and dive under acceleration and braking. This will improve traction when you accelerate hard and also improve braking as it lets the rears do some of the work, but without sacrificing ride quality.

It will also go some way to reducing body roll, but you'd really need to be looking at ARB's/strut braces to bring it in line with other hot hatches and this will be at the expense of a comfortable ride.

Would personally recommend changing springs and dampers, but others seem happy with just the springs... :D

Suspension first. Its not as if the car lacks all power now, is it ? By improving the suspension and brakes you will be able to brake deeper into turns and go round faster , which is where all the fun is . . .. re-mapping is fine, if you just want to go faster in a straight line .

Suspension / brakes first

Then re-map .

Standard brakes (288's) are fine with DS2500 pads. I am having to revert back to these as my insurance won't cover larger discs yet are fine with performance pads?

Suspension, then you can explore the handling. The remap only comes into play afterwards, when you're screaming in and out of corners with minimal body roll IMHO.

The other way round would have resulted in me getting 'close and personal' with a drystone wall, on more than one occasion.
