Cold weather = dash cam mount keeps falling off

Featured Replies

Only when the temperature drops (less than 4 degrees) the dash cam mount comes off the windscreen and hangs by the charge cable.

This morning was 1 degrees and the camera was swinging by the cable. Cleared the windscreen and tried to reapply, with no joy.

Anyone have any solutions to stop this from happening? Its a nextbase camera with the suction cup mount and lever.

Get the screen warm and dry, then put it on

If it's still falling off, use a smear of vaseline

My sat nav used to do this but in summer...in the end i had to buy a new mount as no matter what i tried it would keep falling off.

Clean the glass 100%.

place a small dab of Tec7 in the suction cup and apply to glass.. hold in postion for approx 2mins

What would be best to use to clean the windscreen, something alcohol based or a household window cleaner?

Vinegar. And kitchen paper.

Thats genuine. It removes all the grease and residues so its absolutely clean

Will give that a try, thanks.

I hope you mean the vinegar not the tec7... dont use tec7...

I use a lens wipe to clean the suction cup first then the area of windscreen where I want to fix the mount.

Lemon juice?.

Whereabouts are you trying to stick it? If you're attaching it to the black shaded section at the top of the screen check with your finger to see if it feels completely smooth or bobbly. If it's bobbly, the suction cup won't stay stuck. One other solution is to use a self adhesive dash disc on the glass first, and then attach the suction cup to that.

Don't use vaseline or any other oily substance.

It will wreck the rubber suction cup.

Stick (or not) with KY Jelly.

Oh yes. Didn't know what Tec 7 was, so googled it. Then it clicked...

Well... at least IF you did go with the tec7, you wouldnt be worried about it moving... ever

I also have a nextbase camera and mine stays on no problem, no matter what the weather. I clean my windscreen regularly with Turtle wax clear view screen cleaner, a great cleaner that does not leave smear marks. Then all I do is smear a bit of spit on the suction rubber, yes spit, and press it on. It has only come off once in the last year.

I clean the screen with a canopy cloth (acquired from my RAF days) and then licked the suction cup. Took a few attempts, but its back on. Will give the screen a proper clean with the above suggestion of vinegar.

Self tapping screws through from the outside*

I was gonna suggest through bolts, but reckoned the tec7 would be more subtle :D
