gearbox mounting fitting tool?

Featured Replies

Can anyone help me with my problem?:

I need to replace the gearbox mounting rubber on my '97 Felicia 1.3. It's the round rubber mount that sits in the fifth gear cover on the end of the 'box, my local Skoda dealer managed to get me the part, but said that their own manual states that they need a special Skoda tool in order to fit the rubber, but they don't know the name or number of the tool that is needed??. does anyone with experience of working on Felicias know the part number of the skoda tool required please?. My dealers say that If I can find the tool number, they will be happy to obtain one, and fit my mounting, but they have no-one there who has worked on Felicias before.

Alternatively, can I safely remove, and re-fit the fifth gear cover from my gearbox, now that I've taken it out of the car?, as the Haynes manual doesn't cover the gearbox internals in any depth. If I can do this without risk of losing essential spring tension or small parts, then I know a local engineering firm who will attempt to press in the new rubber for me once the casing is separated..

There isn't any "essential spring tension or small parts" to lose if you remove the cover. You'll need Three Bond 1215 Grey Silicone Liquid Gasket or similar to seal the cover back. As for fitting the bonded rubber bush by a local engineering firm, so long as they fit it with the arrow facing up, you're good. See photo.

Note: VAG fancy (and expensive!) special tools are hard to find. I couldn't find a comprehensive catalog that describes them, let alone codes or, God forbid, technical drawings. In fact, I'm not sure there are part codes other than VAG tool codes. If that's the case, VAG codes are as follows:

Removing

  • MP 3-601 for 10S and 14S gearboxes
  • MP 6-430 and T 30001 for 14SK gearboxes

Installing

  • MP 3-602 and T 30002 for 10S and 14S gearboxes
  • T 30002 and T 30001 for 14SK gearboxes

Thanks very much for that Ricardo. My Gearbox is a 14SK type. I will phone my dealer tomorrow and see what tools they have, or are prepared to buy in. do you need any photographs of the exposed gears for your collection?.

Sure. As I always said, the photos are not necessarily for me but they could assist me whenever I'll need to point out details of various repairs. Like in your case to point out the visual external difference between gearbox types.

Any mechanical shop that has a hydraulic press usually has all sort of adapters to extract/press various diameter bushings. Therefore I wouldn't bother buying special tools for a one-time job.
