Rear Mudflaps that actually work!

Featured Replies

After spending a couple of hours before Christmas fitting a set of "standard" rear mudflaps to my vRS, it soon became apparent that they made little if no difference!

As I use the car for a 115 mile round commute every day, and am getting seriously pi**ed off with getting filthy everytime I open the boot (let alone refilling the water bottle every 3 days) I decided to fit a pair of Sparco Rally style mudflaps at the weekend.

wanna see some pics as for my dealer didn't fit original ones, cause they're not straight fit.

yeah, need some pics 1st. not sure i'd go max power style and cant see how they actually make that much difference to the grime which builds up on the back of the car as this comes from the exhaust/poor aerodynamics at high speed.

Found this on rallynuts website.

his might sound daft but but short of having one big flap that goes rigth under tyhe car you wont stop the pack of a hatchback getting dirty it's down to the aerodynamics.

Fitting big rally style ones will make a bigger diffence but youll still get dirty opening the hatch cos iut slap bang in the middle.

The only way to keep the back clean is to fit a big, '**** - off' WRC style rear spoiler.

John. ;)

I think the only way to keep it clean is not drive it.

put ya pics up mate

We want pics!

 Hideous !!

you could fit 1 of the full width flaps which are fitted to trucks - that'd stop more road spray :)

If you drive in reverse then your rear flaps will work !!

Better still, wrap cling film around the tailgate before your journey then when you reach your destination whip it off and hey presto, clean bum. :D

Joking aside, if there is something that will work, including a flap that goes all the way 'under' it's worth considering :)

IIRC Saab has extra mudflaps underneath the car on some models. Not sure why etc but I'm quite sure it had some.

Never know, it could work... with a white and green paint job, wide arches, big boot spoiler, tarmac stage tyres on white alloys... :D

Where do you get that? 'Crinkley Bottom'

How are the mods coming along?

Nice one Chris.

At the end of the day, why all this moaning about dirty cars blah, blah, blah. Just get out occasionally and clean the damn thing. You can even give it a quick jetwash whilst your out. I even clean mine when it's raining, cos' so what, either remove the muck more often or leave it a few days and moan about a dirty car.

I'm looing forward to a thread showing the DIRTIEST cars on the forum. Ligit ones as well. Now that would be a laugh.

Could you get some pics up please - I have a set of these mud flaps in the back of my car at the moment waiting to be fitted.

I reckon some rally-spec ones could look good, depending on the colour of the car, and the colour of the flaps. Straight black Sparco ones for example, with no logos, on a black car could look quite purposeful :)

But for the time being:

:wrthless:

Steve

I have time to clean the car once a week, tops, as I require daylight to clean it to some kinda half-decent standard (as was proved when I did it last week in bad light, missed several bits, was quite annoying and my own fault :P )

As I do 500 miles absolute minimum each week, anything to keep it from looking like I've driven through a mudbath by the middle of the week would be a bonus :D

I had my car Lifeshined prior to collection and to be honest, at the time I was very much in two minds. It was the best thing I ever did ! :) The dirt seems very reluctant to stick, even salt & dirt wih rain mixed finds it hard to attatch. Anyway it easily jets off if I feel the need to clean the car on my travels. Lots of jetwashes round my neck of the woods have 'pay as you go' jobbies so I can get rid of all the crap for just a £1 !! ;) It looks as if I have polished it and i couldn't recommend Autoglym lifeshine enough, amazed and converted. The screenwash booster is fantastic & smells nice. :)
