DSG in snow

Featured Replies

Hi, got my Superb in June of this year (2L TDI Elegance); how does the DSG perform in snow/ice? Had slush boxes previously which were generally poor in wintery conditions; hoping the DSG will be better - Regards Dee Dar

All comes down to the tyre choice... stick a set of Michelin Alpines on it and it wil be like driving in the wet... :)

I've put Conti Winter Contact 850s on.

Really good with 4x4 and DSG.

I had a 2009 Octy vRS diesel DSG a few cars ago, absolutely shocking in snow. No winter mode, couldn't overide to get in a higher gear. My mate has had a few Passat dsg diesels, same as my Octy was.

Hence, I now have winter tyres fitted to my Superb

With good tyres snow is not a problem with dsg.

Tyre choices make all the difference I snow

DSG box works fine, but traction control and electronic differential lock do all the work to try and get you moving. You can bury your right foot, and the electronics will limit the power to what can be used.

Never tried a diesel in snow, but the TSI petrol is so responsive it will adjust power to what the traction control wants multiple times per second.
