Cabin sensors

Featured Replies

After nearly five years, I'm still not sure what/where they all are.

One big black square blob on the dash in front of the box.

Three little ones on the over head console, together with two little square grilles.

One on the "heater" panel.

Can you remind me what they do!

The 'blob' in front of the dash top box is a temp sensor (might do other things as well).

One of the square grills has the BT mic behind it, the other is just to make it look symmetrical.

The three round overhead ones are the interior motion detectors for the alarms.

Can't recall one of the heater panel though!

You missed the one in the top right of the Columbus (I think Bolero has one too); that's a light sensor to dim the screen after dark.

Think you'll find the one on top of the dash is a sunshine sensor and the one on the climate control panel is the cabin temperature sensor

Thanks, but what does the sunshine sensor activate?

I missed one out, the low light level sensor in the dash panel!

It senses whether there is sunshine (light or heat I'm not certain, but think the latter) on the front of the car and adjusts the interior temperature to compensate for the extra solar radiation (heating effect) from the sun.

The low light sensor is built into the Columbus. I don't recall there being another one anywhere.

Then there's the one in front of the rear view mirror for auto lights.

Another in the rear view mirror to sense bright lights behind you (for auto dimming mirrors).

There is another light sensor in the instrument cluster :)

I'm sure I read somewhere that if there is bright sunshine directly behind the car (and therefore oncoming cars would be driving into it and possibly dazzled) - the headlights come on.

Or am I making that up ??

My bet is your nose is growing :sun:

It has happened to me on a couple of occasions. But I generally have switched the lights on before then as it's not very sensitive during the day.
