Removing smells

Featured Replies

Without going into too much detail, I stepped in something this week without realising and then drove my nice, new vRS 230.

I've scrubbed the carpet where some of it went and the pedals. Thankfully it was my left foot so it was mostly just the accelerator and not too much on the carpet.

However, with the heating on there is still a distressing odor. Does anyone have any advice for removing this curse?

Sell it ! :<)

Only Kidding!!

Can you remove carpet and wash with heavy duty carpet cleaner.

If not a foam carpet cleaner might lift the impregnated smelly stuff to the surface and vacuum off?????

Hint in your name.

Have you tried fresh lemon in water to scrub and clean with, then after it is dry white vinegar?

Sprinkle the effected area with lots of bicarbonate of soda, leave overnight and vacuum off.

Often it's residual bacteria that can cause ongoing smells. Dilute some dettol or use an anti-bac spray and clean with that. Be careful not to use anything bleach based as it may discolour the carpet.

At least the 5h1t didn't hit the fan :p

Is the smell coming from the carpet or the air con system?

If the former buy a foam based upholstery cleaner - spray on, allow the foam to bring the smell to surface, agitate with nail brush then wipe clean. If the later then TPS (Trade parts Specialists) are selling air con bombs - set off the aerosol with engine running / air con on full and leave for 10 mins.

I would go with white vinegar for odour removel, readily available in spray bottles from Wilkinson's and home bargains etc for less than £1.

Is this any good on Chips

I would hire or loan a carpet washer mashine, the sort that have a tank of clean water that you can add anti bacterial chemicals to. I hired one a few years back from hss hire. Or even a vax mashine.

You were able to hire them for half a day years ago.

This way you remove all all the 5h1t rather that just nutralising it.

You could even try steam cleaning it, but it might knacker the carpet, as cheep carpets are bound with more glue underneath. It its the matt thats got it on, and you have non of the above, pressure wash them, but not to close or it will disintegrate.

Thanks guys, I'll give some of these a go!

I kinda want to be rid of it before taking it back to the dealer (moisture ingress in indicators) on the 7th in case they judge me too harshly :s
