Would I have DPF and or SCR

Featured Replies

In another topic about petrol Vs Diesel  post #9

it says "Or SCR/AdBlue - Sept 2015 is the Euro 6 cutoff point - many diesels also have SCR after (and many before) this"

My uk Octy3 was first reg 29th Sept 2015 how do I know if I have a DPF or indeed SCR.

I'm reasonably car savvy apart from all these new bells and whistles and still trying to find my way round under the bonnet having been used to older ford diesels.

Sounds like DPFs like to get good and hot every now and then so would one or two good runs a year prevent problems or does it need to be more often.

TIA

Bob

No SCR on Octavias only on the more powerful diesel Superbs e.g. 190 TDI SCR

So its a DPF.

Generally diesels are better for higher mileage e.g. 15k miles or more.

If you do short journeys you'll notice yours regenerating quite often. Slightly increased revs, smelly fumes and fans running when you switch off.

The 1.2 and 1.4 TSi petrols are very economical, pokey and more suited to small journeys.

Thank You Glosrich.

For those who don't know, the way to tell if your car has SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) is if you are told (or in some cases not told) that you need adblu.

Well I tried looking through the book of words but mine is generic across all Octy3s and so often mentions things I don't have on my car so I'm beginning not to trust it to resolve exactly what I have and don't have.

I've even proved a spare parts site to be wrong about which bulbs I need in the spare bulb kit for my reg number.

I'm trying hard not to be a typical newbie and asking too many questions here but thankfully you lot are being generous and helpful in nearly all cases.

So is it one or the other? I.e. do SCR cars not have a DPF?

You either have a DPF or BOTH.

DPF is to reduce particle expulsion and SCR is to reduce NOx.

Whilst EU5 regs saw the compulsory introduction of dpfs SCR hasn't been introduced until now with EU6+ Along with both low and high pressure EGR systems.

Good to know James - cheers.
