Engine type

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have an Octy Mk 2 facelift 2.0 VRS (Petrol)

On my registration docs my car is registered as a 2.0 TFSI but looking under the bonnet it says TSI. This is confusing me. I also know that my car has a timing chain instead of a belt which I have read is one of the differences between the 2 types. What engine do I have?

I want to get a stage 1 remap from REVO but it looks like there are different types of remap for the TFSI and TSI. Confused because people are saying it will be what it says it is on docs.

Engine replacement was carried out 1 year ago too if that helps.

Any advice appreciated

Cheers,

Gaz

Thanks for the reply. Were some 2010 models still the TFSI then? A bit confusing how everyone picks it up as TFSI when registration number is used on databases. Some of my mates think im bonkers saying its the TSI lol

You could try and look at the vehicle identification sticker under the carpet in the trunk. Check the engine code and then look that one up.

Mk2 FL vRS petrol should be a TSI.  If so, it will have an engine code starting with CCZA.  This would be seen on a sticker on the upper cam chain timing cover (assuming it hasn't been removed). Think also on a sticker on Left Hand Side front door pillar with door open. It has been raised before but on V5Cs, the description still says TFSI for many cars (if not all of them) some reason, including for my April 2011 manufactured unit.

Same with my late 2011 VRS, TFSI in the log book, but really it is a TSI.

VW group cars seem to use the terms TFSI & TSI interchangeably.  Audi used TFSI long after everyone else dropped it.

You are better off using engine type.

The chain drive model was the EA888

I think the belt drive was EA113

Yes, for those who read this subsequently UK Spec vRS Mk2 Facelift Petrol should be CCZA = EA888 series. Pre facelift vRS Petrol was BWA = EA113 series

There are quite a few differences engineering wise but physically they are quite easy to tell apart. The older EA113 had the oil dip stick to the (UK driver side) of the intake manifold at front of engine and the oil filter on engine block to the other side (UK Passenger) of the intake. The later EA888 series had the oil dipstick to the (UK drivers) side of the plastic engine cover near upper timing chain cover. The oil filter was located very nearby just around the front of the engine from where the dipstick is.

There was a good ECS Tuning document which showed this as well as the technical engineering differences but I can't put my hand on it now. It was US based and they have different engine code designations and 2 variants due to specific California emissions requirements but nonetheless it was a useful document to identify physical and spec differences.
