Top Speed out of your Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

I love this speedo/gps comparison.

Speedo's on there own have always been good enough for me to measure my speed tbh' date=' as thats what they do.

Who is to say gps is deadly accurate?

Anyway, on oem wheels and tyres, my speedo is 10% more than my gps, and on my 18" wheels, they are identical, right up to v max, which since my remap was tweaked, is over 140 mph.[/quote']maybe this will suit you ? http://tm.uk.ask.com/r?t=an&s=a&uid=07713D3D21EE4A634&sid=17650C59403A09D34&o=0&qid=5D4594B73957B58CC12E5806874B98C1&io=0&sv=0a652823&ask=How+does+gps+measure+speed&uip=561e4e5d&en=gg&eo=-100&pt=Speed%20measurement&ac=6&qs=0&pg=1&sgcl=8c9fny-nN&sgch=773fCN-3S-s6RVX35s-Gt-1ZcrOW&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Fpagead%2Ficlk%3Fsa%3Dl%26ai%3DBudRwPArZQ_fcI4O8RZKuscgNg9ihAfag05IBvYnSC8C4AhABGAEgrVEoBTAAQIoWSIg5UIvc2-v-_____wGgAa3bpP8DqgEWYWotdWstc2NpK2FqLXVrLXFocHFieMgBAZUCDFsRCg%26num%3D1%26adurl%3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.racelogic.co.uk%2Fvbox

Accurate to 0.1 kph !! Now that's accurate. (edit due to can't spell)

  • I've heard that 155 mph was achieved on a dual carriageway somewhere in England against a Mitsubishi Mira Extreme ME 450 !

Intresting gadget. I know someone who has a performance meter, so i might see if i can borrow it, and see how well they work.

I've had 130 on the clock - 118 on GPS - a bit left on top of that that I'll probably never use.

The military, aviation, surveyors etc etc all use GPS because it's deadly accurate!

:P

The vRS was never designed to go above 140, tbh it's not even safe to go 130. It feels like it's lifting off the floor, poor little egg box on wheels, there there....

:P[/quote']Yep. Saddam would agree. Apart from altitude information, which can contain large errors, position and hence speed information from GPS is more accurate than any mechanical system.

But remember that it takes a civilian-grade GPS a finite time to work out its position and hence speed, so your GPS position fix is only likely to happen at about 1 Hz and so the data is a second old by the time it's displayed (and @ 100 mph you are 146 feet further down the road).

Are you being serious? I ve never had that problem.

Maybe you weigh more than Hellfire

Hi

Mine felt fine at 132. A little light yes, but definately stable enough to not slow down for a gentle corner. Guide it gently and it does the biz.

Looks like I will need to have another go at this as 132 seems a bit below par. The car was only 1700 miles old and the surface was providing a little wet drag. On the up side, the engine was breathing stone cold damp air. Also did not get much time to wind it out to vmax. Will wait until 20,000 service and new air filter is in.

Generally, the engine is continuing to loosen up quite nicely now out at around 13000 miles and feels much stronger at the top end, so bodes well for another crack at vmax.

Chris

Absolutely NO problem with standard suspension etc to get round the bend at indicated 130. Dry road, Sport Contact 2s with 1k miles on them.

This was not in the UK mind, at those kinda speeds I'd be worried about the road conditions etc though, not exactly a smooth surface generally.

These speeds are for the track in the UK though IMHO - but that's not what this thread is about :P

At 140 (indicated) mine started emitting a signifcantly loud whistle from the sides of the car. It felt stable and had another 15mph to go before I would consider it v-maxxed ;) - I just wussed out. :o

I think I work out that at 70 mph it's 2100 rpm = 33.33 mph per 1000 rpm

Assuming you have enough power / aero drag 150 mph = 4500 rpm

Thats the new gearbox that is!

Don't know what drag co-efficient the Fab is?? I heard it's not very good!

How can 130 be safe going round any sweeping bend

I am not denying I have gone quick round corners, but not that quick.

The car is planted at 130 but in comparison to my Mondeo (better aerodynamics, fat 18" tyres, lower centre of gravity) it bodes no comparison.

That's not to say it can't do the 130/140/150 even on certain *cough* devonutopia's *cough* car(s) but I wouldn't feel safe at these license loosing speeds. Too much risk involved in terms of safety and loosing my license = no job = no car = no house.

I am being honest in saying I do drive quickly to 100 from time to time but rarely exceed this speed because I don't feel the need to, if you want a thrill, have a w@nk :D

I think the drag is the same as a house side, as attempting v-max is the only time i get slight heat soak, and the mpg drops to 13mpg :D

Its probably the reason 130 comes fairly quickly, but the other 17/18mph takes another couple of miles to attain.

Never been past 120 mph :(

Yes, but thats just between roundabouts you psycho

You felt safe in the car, no? :D
You felt safe in the car, no? :D

Not at first, but at that point, i didnt know how good your brakes were. After they were warm, i was more than happy. :D

My speedo has roughly a 10% over read on my gps, which I think is excessive. When you get above 90 and the resolution of the gauge changes you might as well stick your head out of the window and measure the airspeed with your face as it will be more acurate.

My GPS has indicated the top speed standard as 129mph and with oneclick and intake 137mph so pretty much the same with everyone. The Furby has the aerodynamics of a milk float and that is well fast enough for anyone!.

This was obviously done in a controlled and legal environment and in no way condones excessive speed on public roads :D

My car is faster than a Bugatti Veyron.

Do you really think we are that stupid Mil?

We ALL know that :thumbup::D

Oi!

All my 'Trolls' are Copywrite: All Right Reserved: US Patent No. 911.

We'll let it go, this time.......

John. ;)

This isn't a Fabia vs XXXXX thread but...

I saw a Veyron the other day, he was really giving it some - lovely car - from 50 - 70 I actually gained* on him
