Stream radio is suddenly dead

Featured Replies

While waiting for traffic lights to turn green, Stream radio in my Ocu II 2006 went off.

Then slowly I noticed some burning smell coming from dashboard (most likely directly from radio itself)

Has anyone else experienced similar ? Earlier today it worked fine except bad radio reception.

If you need a replacement I've got one that I removed when changing to a Bolero. Pay the P&P and it's yours if you want it. It's the non MP3 version though

Doesn't sound good does it? Think you need to remove the unit also check the supply fuse. If blown I'd still probably remove the radio for inspection of unit and surrounding cabling. Sounds very much like time for a new unit.

It does happen that something gets fried on the componentary within the unit perhaps on the PCB, a capacitor etc. They then burn a little and let off the smoke smell and the issue is contained in the unit itself.

Depending on current involved in the unit internal fault, it may well not cause an activation of a current supply fuse initially.  I would also check the wiring though, just to make sure there is no issue, but a dead short "should" normally cause the supply circuit fuse to blow.

I had a wire pop out of my stereo harness the other day. Smelled burning and quickly turned the ignition off.

It shorted and and burnt out a copper circuit track in my amplifier adapter which in effect acted as a fuse.

So it could be something similar or as above that there has been a short in the wiring and whatever let off the burning smell has now burnt out and effectively become a fuse in itself before the actual fuse could blow.
