P0601 ECU CHECKSUM ERROR

Featured Replies

Hi, my ECU had a p0601 check sum error.

My VRs was running perfect with just the ecu and engine management light on,

I was advised that although there were no problems I needed to have it fixed so I sent the ECU to cartech electronics to have the data transferred from my faulty ecu to a donor ecu at a cost of £400.

On return it was fitted -  the engine ran for 20 mins then started rough idling then stalled within seconds.

If it wasn`t for me chatting to someone in the street I would have been banging down the motorway at 70 - daren`t think where I would be now if it had stalled then - puts the sh-ts up me thinking about it.

Does anyone have any ideas or experience in what could be wrong at all - I have gone down all avenues and spent hours surfing till i am dizzy but cannot find any answers.

I am now in the process of removing the ecu to return it back to Cartech for their input.

Really puzzled over this - any ideas at all would be appreciated.

Has the original fault present from your old ECU cleared and stayed off?

What is the car status now? Won't start or starting rough / stalling? Any fault codes?

I suppose it is possible you have got back someone else's ecu that had a fault that hasn't been fixed correctly.

The original fault has returned  -  ECU and ENGINE management lights on.

The car did run perfect before with no problems at all  -  but now it just turns over there is no misfiring at all - it just refuses to fire up.

It doesn`t sound like an healthy turn over either it doesnt sound smooth it sounds rough as if there is no fuel being fed into the engine.

But then again all the lights will appear while the car is trying to start up -  is that right. ???

Im tempted to think the checksum error was a red herring. Could have just been down to a number of low battery events which also trigger p0601.

You need to check the battery voltage on turn over, high probability the battery is farked and your original ecu was ok.

Yes thanks XMAN you could have hit the nail on the head !!!!

Just been reading about recalls for the ignition coil that apparently can cause low voltage - although my VRs is supposed to have had this done  - but you never know.

Just booked an Auto electrician to have a look.

Have driven Skodas for the last 25 years - nobody has a ferking clue about these ECU s.

Skoda should be damn well ashamed fitting this crap in their vehicles !!!!

I purchased this VRS - for £6000 - IT IS LIKE NEW !!!! it has 56,000 miles on the clock - FSH.

It now runs perfect  - just with the EPC light on - but I am not comfortable with it - SO NOW selling my PRIDE & JOY

If anybody is interested they can have it for £3000.

NEXT CAR WILL BE SOMETHING ELSE -
