Very slow main beam switch with SLA?

Featured Replies

I have this `smart light assist` option (http://www.skoda-auto.com/en/models/new-superb/video-safety-sla) and switching on the main beam is frankly very slow. Disabling the SLA system doesn't help at all. Take a look at this video, main bream raises fully in around 133miliseconds: https://vimeo.com/195326890

On another car, that doesn't have SLA, it's twice as fast:

Is there a defect? Why does SLA make it so slow?

Both cars are MY2017.

SLA is slower, because the Headlight works different. Just put in in Auto and let it do his Thing :)

SLA uses a roller shutter with a motor attached which needs to rotate to the main beam position. As you've shown, this can take a short amount of time. It needs the roller shutter to give each of the beam patterns.

Bi-xenons use a much quicker solenoid and simpler shutter as they only had an open and closed position.

Problem is that SLA doesn't really work. Lets be honest, it only work in ideal road conditions and most of the time it's dangerous to use - you're at risk of running with low beam at high speed.

"Dangerous" is somewhat OTT. Just push the stalk forward again and it behaves like a normal Main Beam. Each push forward of the stalk cycles the setting of SLA or non-SLA Main Beam, whilst a pull back reverts to dipped beam.

Correct, but irrelevant? First push switches to SLA (auto) main beam? Why did they make it the default, it's so bad ...
