No car since October !

Featured Replies

The VRS went to the dealer's on the 3rd October for a knocking noise from the steering when manoeuvering. As the dealer is struggling with locating the noise I have a Skoda engineer coming out 5th january. If they are unable to rectify the noise the car will be going to Milton Keynes to be looked at ! And to rub salt into the wound, the sandwich delivery van drove into the car. Now needs a new front bumper ! The car hire alone is going to cost £8280 by January ! !

£8280 for car hire? You could have purchased a brand new dacia sandero for £5995 and had something to show for it.

Strange, actually crazy.

the Skoda warranty provider (Skoda UK) might as well have approved the replacement of all steering and suspension components and 2 Master Techs to install it,

Discount on the hourly rate they charge paying customers & i am sure they get a discount on parts....

Car hire is about £30 a day for that length of time.

So 3 months approx £2700

I am pleased to say Skoda are covering the car hire !

I do not get how it can get this far out of hand !

Yes, could've had a lot of parts fitted for that cost !

Paperwork in the car £92 a day ! ! ! !

Not acceptable is it.

Have you spoken to skoda customer services?

Did you buy it new?

Is it on finance with Skoda VWFS?

If so I'd be rejecting the car.

Yes purchased new, and yes with VWFS. Only been dealing with Skoda UK (don't know if that's customer services too ?) I do like the car, I think if the engineer can't sort it, it's time to go !

Not acceptable. They should have offered a replacement or refund by now.

Let them sort the problem in their time, not yours.

Not fit for purpose. Get some legal advice.

Unfortunately the owner will have to allow the dealer to correct the fault.

One simply cannot walk away and expect full refund. I have personal experience with VWFS with car 'rejection' and the criteria used to fulfill a rejection.

Are you paying for a hire car? If so why? In total my car spent over 6 weeks at my dealer and I had a courtesy car from them gratis for the duration.

Good luck with the rejection. SUK or VWFS don't just hand out replacement cars.

One can not simply walk away, but this is past mid December & the car has been with them since October and the Milton Keynes stuff is garbage.

You will be entitled to a lions share of so called 'goodwill' for your inconvenience.

Be persistent and belligerent. In total with other visits my car probably did spend 2 months at the dealer and the dealers paintshop therefore like you early on in ownership I was without what I was paying for.

On the plus side with the cash I received back for my inconvenience (cited as, time lost In dealing with the issue, phone calls, letters, lack of faith In product etc) this had ensured that next to no profit has been made on my vehicle. Gratis payments of almost £2000 to me and the repair Bill for the dealer/SUK was over £2500.

I do not understand SUK policy and procedure. As in your case they seem to waste time and resources and mis-manage problems with the net result of customers losing faith In the product / brand.

A good dealer is not measured on the car purchase experience or if your car was washed after a routine service. They earn their merit if they can effectively deal with real problems post car sale.

There are examples on the Superb forum of them offerring replacement cars.

You would think thats the better option. Rather than making a customer wait 3 months.

The Consumer rights act applies here.

A knocking noise (depending on its severity and effect on vehicle usage) tends to be classed as an annoyance and wouldn't necessarily render the vehicle as not fit for purpose. Noises are a massively common occurrence, it's funny how many people become solicitors when they have a problem with something. This is where having a GM that runs your business and studied consumer law comes in handy.

With MK getting involved it might be a safety related issue that they have come across and they need the vehicle inspecting.

I've come across some difficult noises in the past but taking months to find it is a real surprise and a bit shocking.

Consumer rights only go so far otherwise we would all be rejecting cars as soon as there was a nuisance 'noise' or a whatever.

I'm sure engine and or gearbox failures are grounds for car rejection

Armchair solicitors or not. Steering, potential safety issue, 4 months to wait for a specialist and then to add to insult it gets hit whilst in their care? Hmmmmm.

What kind of hire car is it? Is it a VRS or is it some turd of a car that doesnt compare? Seems like paying PCP for a car you cant drive is unfair at this point?

Id be absolutely blazing, in fact after a couple of weeks Id have been blazing (just been through this, welcomed the brand new service manager to his job on his first day with an uncomfortable phone call due to a 6 week wait for a warranty claim!) And then to be told it had been crashed into would have sent me in to orbit!

I'm in a fight with VWFS and SUK regarding on going issues with my car since my purchase in December last year. My car has been in the garage the equivalent of once a month for various issues, albeit not major mechanical failure but various different issues varying from rattles/vibrations to touch screen issues with the radio. One issue with a vibration coming from the engine bay they haven''t been able to fix for over 5 months and 7+ visits to the dealers. I'm trying to reject the car but they aren't bending over backwards, they're trying everything in the book and most of all the dealer don't give a monkeys, the one time they had the car they damaged the interior and scratched the drivers door paintwork!

I hope you get your issues sorted soon otherwise I might join you in a campaign!

What? Attempting to reject a car due to rattles and vibrations.

Granted the touchscreen problem is a real issue but rattles and vibrations. Is your car a diesel?

As I have mentioned before about skoda rejection policy they don't just hand out replacement cars. Annoying as it is for the owner of a 'problem' car or a 'lemon' for minor issues you cannot simply discard the car when it suits.

Been back to the dealer today, they called in the week to say they have sorted the noise by fitting a hub and driveshaft to the nearside. The engineer was scheduled to visit 5th Jan, but was cancelled due to them fixing the car. I was invited to drive the car to ensure the noise was gone before the bumper replacement was to happen. Drove no more than 1/2 mile down the road turned into a cul-de-sac and knock knock knock. Back to the dealer and took the sales manager out (as the workshop was closed when I made it over) to show the noise and have left the car with them ???? the courtesy car (C4 picasso) had to go back as we'd reached the limit on mileage (due to having it so long) now have a Superb for the foreseeable ! !

Update: Skoda engineer now coming out 24 January ! !

I feel for you! I'm the proud owner of a 16 plate 4x4 VRS which is currently at DM Keith in Wakefield waiting to have its third diff installed!!

It's done 8000 miles, what's going on with these cars????

Repeating a tech... if they built the cars as well as the reputation they trade on; i.e. as well as the ones in the 80/90's, we could not afford to buy them.

Some good hills around Huddersfield though :) Some I fear in the citigo if anything is behind me.

Of course in the 80s and 90's if you had an issue... you had far less recourse. The old man had a XM with a HAL like computer, don't think it ever got it's brain reset.

One thing for sure, we can use the community here to spot pattern or ways to help each other. That's when it's at it's best, even at two remote ends of a phone line; antiquated concept too now...

Does it really take over 3 months for an issue with (any) new cars to be sorted or diagnosed? I'd be absolutely fuming about this - especially paying for it each month and only getting, IMO, a sub standard car as a replacement (the C4, not the Superb). Hope it's fixed - keep us updated.

Surely you reach a point where the dealership rejects the car on your behalf if it is a nightmare and can't be resolved.

Having read through this post again it beggars belief that the dealer/service centre has to call for experts from outside. Where are the qualified mechanics? Those that have been trained by Skoda/VW and proudly show off the qualification certificates in the entrance lobby? Are car mechanisms that complex today that supposed trained or qualified people cannot establish the cause and then remedy the fault without the need for experts to fly in? Or have I missed the point and this is only a sales company without any knowledge of a cars engineering?

Glad to see that you now have a better class of vehicle as a stand-in and hope you very soon get it sorted to your entire satisfaction, with considerable compensation: I think your situation would have taken its toll on my health and life expectancy .
