figuring out the leaky boot

Featured Replies

I've got a 56 plate fabia that seems to have a leak somewhere in the car.

The one I've pinned down so far seems to be in the boot. I lifted up the spare wheel cover to see the wetness pattern. It seems to go from the rear of the car to the front from about the mid-point.

I've poked about and 2 vents at the bottom seem to be dry. Any thoughts on what it could be causing the boot carpet to get wet? around the spare wheel it seems to be dry.

Rear clusters, rear screen seal, missing grommets or the rear wiper and/or washer pipe.

Washer pipe heads up the passenger side, then around and up past the NS rear door.

I'm assuming not the clusters as the water patterns is more central.

This leave the rear screen seal, grommets or rear wiper/washer pipe.

I suppose the first thing I can check is the pipe.

rear wiper and/or washer pipe.

I tested it - seemed to spray ok and reached the correct height.

Chucked a bottle of water over the top of the window (between the spoiler and window) and also along the edges.. didn't seem to leak in.

I'm not sure the light clusters are to blame just yet as the water patter definitely seems to be more central.

Will pop the plastics off when I get a mo. maybe it's just a slightly lose pipe.

Do we get water ingress from the badge?

Badge is just stuck on, have you looked in the spare wheel well to make sure the drain hole grommet is fitted, water could be coming from underneath when you drive on wet roads.

Check glass apperture too buddy. If rear glass bond is tired or been replaced it can leak in.

Right, so following the recent rains:

both rear doors leaking

front driver door leaking

boot: looks like water ends up between both lips on the rubber and pools there, then as the amount of water increases it seems to find it's way down the plastics.

The Mrs left a query with a VW specialist locally.

Meanwhile I do whatever I can to dry up the moisuture in the car.

A bit cautious of the rear glass bond as I can see some marks, but it seems to be intact all around.

That's probably just the rear screen slightly delaminating as they tend to do. Won't affect the seal.
