BBC weather forecast online

Featured Replies

I have to keep my eye on the forecast as I rely on the weather for work planning purposes.

Hence I watch the online BBC updated forecast vid at least once  every day at my convenience.

Yesterday, it started playing up, freezing and non stop buffering half way through.

Now it just doesn't play at all anymore.

Everything else is working fine. Online film streaming, daft clips on facebook, news reels etc etc.

What could possibly be the problem?

I've done all the usual malware sweeps etc, but to no avail,

Possibly just increased traffic due to the incoming spell of wind over the next few days (and I'm not on about the sprouts either)

Mmmm.

Never had this problem before though over the last 5-10 years.

I find the met office's own site more accurate and reliable than The BBC's.

As if by magic, it's just worked!   :dull:

Maybe it was just over loaded with viewers?

Not seen that one.

I'll check it out.

I find weather so interesting, sorry if that sounds a bit 'geeky'

If you have a smartphone just install one of the many weather apps around.

Personally I find BBC weather isn't as good or reliable these days as it used to be. Didn't they part ways with the MET office a few months back?

I find the accuweather site pretty good. Fairly on the button last couple of yrs.

There are loads of sites out there for forecasts and numerous apps on the smartphones (Windy & Windfinder are currently on my phone as the wind has the greatest effect upon my operations).

The problem with many forecasts and apps is where they take their data from and how they interpret it and draw conclusions for YOUR location. Knowing which website / app is accurate for where you are is more important than any personal recommendation or favourite.

Having worked outdoors for the past 30+ years I've found the Met Office forecasts to be accurate only occasionally. I look at their synoptic charts (and rue the day the BBC dumbed down their TV forecasts by removing them) and the Magic Seaweed charts and draw my own conclusions from those.

Here on the West Coat of Scotland we are currently being buffeted by Storm Barbara and have Storm Connor to contend with on Christmas Eve and into Christmas Day.

Although the ferrys have had sever disruption, we still have electricity and can keep warm and cook and see. So thank you to all the people who are unseen and I thanked for keeping the network up and running.

It's all down to interpretation!

Met office are far better than the BBC because they own the raw data and models, whereas the BBC 'interpret' and dumb down. If you're into marine forecasts then please stay well clear of the BBC.

At least in Scotland you can check the current air and road temps as they are being monitored.

You can also check the Roadside Cameras live.

But that is just on Trunk Roads.

At least you can see what conditions you can expect at locations you are driving to or through

It is a pity with Snow Gates that hours after they are opened & can be seen on Websites as open they can still be showing as closed

on this tax payer funded site.

When you contact the Transport Minister or the Management they pass you off or pass you on to someone that is used to flannel or

just blaming the Police or someone else.

BBC weather is a standing joke between some of my friends it's so inaccurate. Meet office a bit better but still not great.

Aspman- they are still trialing the new seaweed .

Aspman- they are still trialing the new seaweed .

Will probably work better than their supercomputer

More cautionaries from our Scottish friends (HoHo) :-

I have a theory that for every £1 billion they spend on supercomputers the accuracy of their forecast drops by 10%.

It would help if they used a credible climate model and not the widely discredited "hockey stick" model that the BBC and the Met Office are still pushing.

Is seaweed more accurate than a hockey-stick, then?  :x

I find seaweed wrapped around a hockey stick works best.

But it has to be at least a 64bit hockey stick.

Is seaweed more accurate than a hockey-stick, then?  :x

MUCH more accurate, even an arthritic knee is more accurate than a hockey stick.

None of the met models have yet successfully embraced the behaviour of the changed jet stream - they admitted as much on the BBC weather prog towards the end of last year -  fortuitous that Met Office have lost the BBC TV presentation  contract to another, eh readers ?
