Felicia 1997 1,6LI blows fuse 14

Featured Replies

Hello everybody. I have just had trouble with my fine little Felicia, which was blowing fuse 14. Well, with ignition of, and a new fuse fixed, I could press brake pedal, and all the brake light lit up, but as soone as I turned the ignition on, and pressed the brake pedal, the fuse blew. According to the Haines manual, the only else thing, powered by the brake switch is the ABS. On the brake switch, there are the 2 black wires with a red marking, on each connector, plus on the one, there are a green wire, which should lead + to the ABS unit. I simply cut the green wire, a little away from the connector, so an assembly would be possible. The fuse stopped blowing, but I guess I do not have ABS now. I guess it must be the ABS controller, that are defect. Has any of You had same experience? All best wishes from me, to You all.

My first question is this: what is the status of the ABS light? Before and after cutting the green wire. Did you see it lighting?

I know that wire you cam goes straight to the abs pump connection I would check the plug for dirt failing that I sounds like the abs pump has failed would need to plug car it read any codes off the abs unit.there tucked well away I have removed and refitted abs twice nows and I do know the pumps fail..... and if abs light and brake warning lights are on you have NO ABS

Note my English is bad (poor)

Hello. I had no fault indication on my instrument cluster, not before or after, I cut the green wire.. A couble of months ago, I had a disconnection of an ABS wheel sensor, but after fixing that, all fault indications dissapeared, and I know for certain, that the ABS worked, because I tested it on a slippy road. I believe, the ABS is not funcktioning now. If I decide to repair the car, I would like to know, if it is just the controller (an electronic box) or the complete unit with pump motor and all, I need to replace.

OK, so I take that the ABS light and the brake fluid level come on with ignition on then go off after 2-3 seconds. Good.

Now, in order for fuse 14 to blow, the other end of the green wire must be connected to ground (or low resistance to ground).

So here is what to do:

  1. with ignition key off, hook up an ohmmeter between the cut end of the green wire and ground (see photo). Read the resistance
  2. ignition key on. Read again the resistance.

Hello RichardoM and all You others. Of cause I did not measure the resistance from the wire to the ABS unit, as RichardoM kindly asked me to do. I am lazy, and it looked, as if everything was all-right, but it was not! Suddently I got blown fuses again, and I ended up, disconnecting the multiconnector, sited behind the car left side back light cluster, the connector carrying all the connections to the back door, carrying the currents for the high brake light, the numberplate light and the back windscreen wiper. Now I have been driving with that connector disconnected for some 10 days, and I have not had any blown fuses. Now I suspect a fault to be, right where all the wires goes through the rubber-tube out to the back-door. It is dammed cold and rainy now, so I'll wait some days, before I go further with the repair. I promise I will write You the result. All the best wishes for You all from Denmark

Oh yeah, the rubber boot of the tail lid... Well known cause for electrical faults. Most probable it's the black/red wire that has cracked insulation and touches the ground.

Hello everybody, who took time to read my questions, and give me suggestions. As I am a lazy ******, I first now did something with the fault. I sprayed the rubber hose between the roof and my tailgate, for making the flexible hose soft again. Now I have taken the hose out of the holes, and I found the fault. I made a lo-quality repair, by putting insulating tape around each wire, and at last, around all the wires. All things now functions in my tailgate, and no fuses blows. See pictures. Thank You to all of You, for advises.

@SoerenfromDenmark - I'm seeing an electrical fire waiting to happen there.

Exactly, @KenONeill. Hopefully he'll have the fire extinguisher ready.
