Oil residue from valve compartment

Featured Replies

Greetings all!

some days ago I noticed thin oil residue coming from valve department!

in 2011 I replased rubber seal due to the same problem, but now I`m thinking is there problem with valve not closing firm enough on 4th cylinder (I think is the 4th cylinder it`s hard to tell)

any suggestion?

also when it`s cold (like past couple months) after first start in the morning, engine runs on 3, maybe 2 cylinders only , until I push throttle pedal a couple times (it didn`t happen in the summer of autumn). it those 2 problems connected??

thans in advanced

Step for a hint - petrol or diesel?

sorry, 1.4 petrol

Mpi at a guess with the reference to rubber gasket.. it is quite normal for the valve cover to leak a bit as it is only held down by 2 nuts. I wouldn't see it as a sign of valve problems at all .

In which case, from my experience of similar arrangements, make sure there is some torque on both nuts, but it's more important that they be even torque than that they be very tight?

Check that the small breather hose has a bit of suction on it if you disconnect it from the filler neck with engine running.

didn`t quiet understand the last suggestion...where is its location?

I have to say,  after changing rubber gasket back in 2011 (first time since manufactured in 2002) , no futher leak was noticed!!  until last month when engine begin to misfire on some cylinders in the morning.

didn`t check the screws yet.

Ok, well my experience is that those 2 nuts want to be applying light (so as not to over-compress the seal) and even (both the same) pressure to the gasket. As to the misfire, that won't be caused by the oil leak unless there's a visible oil path from the cover to the plug holes.

ok I`ll check on that...

nothing is drained to the sparkplug...sparkplug are only 10000 km old...
