Any ideas? Performance change after sensor change

Featured Replies

I have an octavia vRS. Two days ago the engine managment light came on and so took the car to a Skoda dealer to have the car diagnosed as to what the fault was. The reason given was a faulty coolant temperature sensor. They had one in stock and so changed it (at great cost seeing as the sensor only cost

The Superchips key, is where they should have stored all the previous information from the original Skoda map, prior to loading their own, this is normally done by opening the ECU and putting in a piggy back board.

Some like the Superchips map, others hate it.

If you do a search there are loads of posts re this topic, sorry, cannot help with the running, but no doubt others can.

Might be worth ringing the stealer and asking if they flashed the ECU?

I would guess that the coolant temp sensor might have an influence on air/fuel mixture as that would be how the ECU would determine if the car were cold or at normal operating temp.

It is possible that whilst driving it with a defective sensor you were running a bit richer than normal and may have experianced an increase in power. It would also have an effect if the sensor was a little bit wayward when the car was mapped.

It's a tricky one which is probably going to be expensive. Assuming every other sensor on the car is ok and that you are using good fuel. You could try superchips and see if they will check it out for you and may be give you a dyno run. Or as Gerry says you may wish to consider another map.
