Heated washer nozzle faulty

Featured Replies

Anyone else noticed one working and not the other? I assume it doesn't give a fault code?

Do these run off the heated mirror control?

I asked the dealers to check when being serviced. But they seemed blank when I mentioned it. And the head tech didn't seem to have a clue about them either! They obviously didn't bother speaking to sales to confirm I wasn't crazy.

How do you know one isn't working?

Is it because it's frozen up?

The fan jets can block very easily particularly if you haven't been using good quality washer fluid. They're impossible to clear in the old way by using a pin and you may have to replace the jet.

According to the latest catalogue the heated nozzles were not standard on any model. I cleared a blocked nozzle once by removing it and soaking in vinegar.

Also I'd partially blocked fan nozzles on a VW Passat B5.5 and switching to a brand 'suitable for fan nozzles' cleared them. I think it was a Halfords product. Ever since then I've used the Lidl stuff 'suitable for fan nozzles' without front fan nozzles blocking.

Check that  your  washer concentrate is suitable for fan nozzles, once they are clear.

Heated washer nozzles are available as a factory fitted cost option on the S and vRS @ £50.

Or as part of the Winter Pack which includes a heated screen and heated seats in addition to the heated washer nozzles on all models excluding the S for £600.

I wasn't very clear sorry. I have the winter pack, one heated nozzle defrosted and sprayed. The other didn't. They both spray fine when not frozen. I am using the VW washer stuff.

Wondered what controls the heating, the heated screen button?

I thought they were temperature controlled. Below 4°C and they activate. Maybe not though.

Unlikely, as you can get the heated nozzles separately of the winter pack and thus the heated screen.

Unfortunately, it does seem that the heating on one nozzle is faulty or perhaps the wiring? Is the car still under warranty?

It is . . . but the service people didn't have a clue what a heated washer nozzle was. ????

Direct your dealer to page 72 of the manual...

  • The windscreen washer nozzles for the windscreen are heated when the engine is running and the outside temperature is less than +10 °C.
