It woudn't suprise me if someone had forgotten that US gallons are smaller than Imperial ones :D Fwiw, my previous C350 Cdi MB average a very respectable 42-44 mpg and I have a slightly heavy foot.

T&E are Brussels based

Probably not that dumb

"Slightly" Lady Leadfoot? ;)

I'd like that as a new Forum name, even if it makes me sound like a tart in Frankenstein stilettos.

I dunno, had a C250 estate hire car for about a month about 3 years ago which somehow only managed to average 25mpg....

Wasn't my driving style at all....

Good grief i can get 25 mpg out of my M135...sometimes

A Lady Elanore surely wouldn't give a fig about fuel consumption........?

I don't worry too much, but do take note :) mind you I spent a bit of time in an H2 Hummer and i did give a slight fig when the boss asked why I needed to fill up the '20 odd' gallon tank :D

I guess it wasn't used as a loan car?.

could sell them faster than we could get them :D

A few footballers at that dealership then.

Merc's figures have always looked high. I would guess the real world figures are pretty average against other cars of similar bhp and type.

It's crossing my mind to get a Jag XFR 5.0 next year. Apparently they can get 30mpg. With the stars in alignment etc.

Footballers loved big Yank SUVs  and we had Man Utd and Man City on our doorstep. A colleague of mine these days, has a 5.0 XKS and it sounds very nice indeed :)

If your willing to pay the premium needed to buy and run a Mercedes then fuel economy is going to be well down the list of priorities.

Mercedes-Benz probably know it too.

Worst fill up I ever did was in a Winnebago... 7.0 V8 with a fuel tank we managed to get 370 litres into... By my calcs that's just over 80 gallons!!!!!

Fortunately it was in Canada and peanuts a litre.

There were the Mercedes A, B & CLA's that got Renault engines which is why Mercedes were being investigated as were Renault on what software might be active during testing.

Then Mercedes are the ones that VW were following when getting into Green Diesel when Mercedes were getting BlueTec to have very good economy and low emissions.

(as long as the correct temperatures were available during tests.)

I once had a Lincoln Navigator fully fueled and ready to go to a new customer. The boss said leave the engine running for a bit to warm it up (it was winter) and when I shut the door it self locked! unfortunately both sets of keys were on the same key chain. 20 gallons to go then....

A carjacking outcome I guess

Slam locking without moving first.......no thanks

Actually the problem was solved thanks to a large flat blade screwdriver, a tea towel and a rod of brazing wire ;)

Was it a case of 'it takes one to know one' then?.

it was a case of a boss who had spent a life in the car trade and knew how to sort things
