Battery drain

Featured Replies

I've posted this in the Octavia Mk1 specific forum, but thought it would get more coverage here.

I've recently installed a dash cam via the rear wiper fuse (piggybacked) as from what I understand, this is a switched live (correct me if I'm wrong).

Unfortunately after leaving the car to stand for 3 days, the battery wasn't of sufficient charge to turn the car over.

The dash cam has parking mode, G sensor and the motion sensor functions disabled.

Also, once the ignition is off, the dashcam only displays the battery icon, meaning it's not drawing power from the car...

Obviously something is pulling power and the only thing I've changed is installing the cam.

Can anyone help?!

Thanks,

Jamie.

It's cold outside, your battery could just have failed. How old is the battery?

I've installed a new Varta battery - unsure of how old the previous one was, as bought the car in Oct.

Will see what the Voltage is tomorrow morning, was 12.6v on install.

Hopefully no battery drain has occurred.

It's better to use a multimeter to read the actual current drawn from the piggyback fuse. It should not draw more than a few milliamperes when in sleep mode.
