S3 L&K: All radio presets gone!

Featured Replies

Could it be some kind of DAB channel recalibration like it happens when you have to rescan you channels on Freeview? (no idea just guessing)

Don't think so Tony, based on my test below, but thanks.

I managed to do the test as earlier described. Took SWMBO's kessy fob to the car and unlocked it. It asked me if I was her (a good start) and when I lied and said yes the seat moved to the cramped and uncomfortable driving position she favours (so far so good). Then onto the DAB presets. She had a full set - not what I was expecting, until I remembered I had created her profile by copying an early version of mine over, then letting her play with seats and mirrors. So this told me there isn't anything profoundly wrong with the unit - it remembered at least one of our preferences - so I must have done something to lose my presets.

Then I (re)assigned her profile to her fob, got out and left. Back to the car with my fob - it asked me if I was me (I was) and it put the seat into my position. Checked the presets - all still gone. So I put them back in and saved the setting using the seat memory. Shut down and walked away. Returned as me and checked - presets all still there. So hopefully all resolved now.

Not sure I can draw a lot of conclusions - I still don't know why my settings disappeared (it wasn't as I suspected that it had remembered / copied SWMBO's empty settings because they weren't actually empty). I didn't get a notification (5A or 6A) and DAB was still working fine on all channels, so I don't think it was the same problem some described earlier in the thread. I can only continue to guess that it had something to do with me fiddling with seat positions. I guess the car is still simply cleverer than I am:D.

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but did anyone get to the bottom of this?

I've had my L&K for 2 years, and every couple of months I have this DAB reset happen to me.  Only one profile on the car and that's mine.  No changes of any kind to any settings made between or before switching off and switching back on again (15 minutes later) when stations vanished.  Google notes that other Columbus units suffering the same issue - the Karoq forum on here most recently.  Mentioned to the dealer the first time it happened, and received a shrug and "one of those things" opinion.

Hi all

I have owned my 17 reg Superb for 3 weeks now and this has happened to me 3 times...

It's due back to my dealer for a couple of things. Is it worth asking them to at the radio or has anyone got a simple fix I try before?

Thank you

S

I’ve had it too. Owned the car 4 months and it’s happened 3 times so far. Interestingly only on my profile, not the wife’s. We both drive the car regularly so change profile a lot. I have on occasion noticed the memory seat setting can get confused too. Especially if one of us selects our profile using the other key. It’s easily resolved by just pressing the preset butting on the seat and next drive it’s fine again. The DAB memory issue is annoying though.

One year later and I have not managed to pin this down yet.

I have only rarely lost my radio presets, perhaps once per 6 months.

I have upgraded by nav data, I do not think it has happened since, but I cannot remember.

I also have a problem losing the station that I am listening to.

I tend to listen to radio 2 on DAB, it may apply to other stations, I do not know.

I could have been driving for a short while or up to 40 minutes when suddenly the station mutes.

This is very intermittent , perhaps once per 2 months, I can find no common circumstances when it happens.

If I click to radio 3 (next to it on my screen), the sound comes back and I can then click back to radio 2 again with sound.

A small problem, but annoying.

I suspect this is a separate issue from the loss of channels. As said I have only lost the channels once, and have no idea if it was something I did wrong or not. But I did notice loss of sound (also on R2) quite regularly. It seemed to happen at particular times (8am was a regular for me) but I don't know if it is because of some kind of change to the broadcast based on time, or if I just happened to be at roughly the same place at that time and it is a weak DAB area. FM worked fine if I switched to it manually, but the infotainment option to revert to FM automatically if DAB drops out, which I have ticked, did not seem to do the job. Changing back to DAB sometimes, but not always, restored the DAB sound; and I also had DAB available on other channels (eg R3) when R2 was not available.

As a completely irrelevant aside, I'm not so aware of it since the line-up changes on R2, since I now rarely tune to that station (thanks for that Ms Wiley:angry:).

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your reply.

It might be a separate issue, but I think it is one or more software faults.

As far as I know, DAB is broadcast in bands with many stations grouped on a single frequency.

This is from Wikipedia,

"DAB has also been marketed as having two major advantages over analogue radio broadcasting in that using MPEG-1 Audio Layer II lossy audio compression technology and more recently DAB+ using High-Efficiency Advanced Audio Coding, parts of the audio spectrum that cannot be heard by humans are discarded, meaning less data needs to be sent over the air. This, as well as multiplexing technology, allows a number of channels to be broadcast together on one frequency as opposed to one channel for analogue radio broadcasts.[21]"

My understanding is that since BBC national stations are grouped in one band, if you lost one because of signal strength, you would lose them all.

No doubt someone will correct this if I am wrong.

Likewise in relation to Ms Wiley :dull:

On the loss of broadcast, I've had that on R2 as well in the past, but it's always happened on the hour - when the presenter switches over to the news...

Definitely the news programme coming on.  See https://bestradios.co.uk/why-isnt-the-dab-radio-working-in-my-car/ retuning and checking:

Losing a signal at a particular time or at the start of a specific programme, typically a news bulletin, is a known problem with some BBC stations and should eventually be resolved. It’s apparently caused by a signal being broadcast before the programme starts and is intended to retune the radio to a different station, which can result in the programme being lost instead.

Chop to a commercial station and then come back and it reverts.

Does anyone know if there's a way to backup radio presets and favourites?  I lost all mine again yesterday, and the ability restore them would save much frustration (and swearing), especially when some of the presets don't appear on the station list for several hours afterwards.

are there any radio station apps for CarPlay ot AA?

Yes,I have had this happen several times in the two years I have had my Sportline, don't know what causes it - just have to reset all the lost stations.

Just happened to me a few days ago. 5A in the display and the DAB presets gone.

I reset the presets manually but the logos are still missing.

Same here. It's happened to me twice now.

Hi, sorry I know this is an old topic, but anyone have any joy in resolving this issue? My presets only last a few days at most before disappearing and going back to empty. Thanks

I spent some time setting mine up when I first had the car and then again when I lost them soon afterwards.  After that I gave up and as I only ever listen to Radio 2 (in the UK), I couldn't be bothered to set up lots of stations I wasn't going to listen to.
