Drivers door lock

Featured Replies

:( My remote central locking has started playing up. Key fob will NOT lock the drivers door, but is working normally on other doors & boot.

I'm putting the key in to the drivers door to lock it - the lock is working but immobliser light isnt coming on, so suspect that its not on.

Anyone any ideas? if theres anything 'obvious' that i can check?

I'm still under warranty (end March 06) so I can still go back to dealership if needed.

That sounds your best bet. Seems like a certain electrical glitch.

I noticed your post this evening.

I too placed a post on the very same subject yesterday.

Not sure if you are aware but I too have exactly the same fault with my door lock / central locking. Unlike you my car is just out of warranty (typical). As such I took the door panel off yeserday to have a look at what might be going on. However I had to stop due to the poor light.

Tonight however, I went to unlock the car (manually) and noticed that the immobiliser LED was flashing as it should. All doors would open using the key fob as normal. Not sure what is going on here, but will monitor it further in the hope that it settles down.

Grateful if you would advise as to what your garage thinks could be causing the problem with yours.

Thanks

Could well be a fault with the door catch assy.

Am booked in at my dealership this Saturday morning....I'll certainly let you know what the outcome is. The guy at the dealership that I spoke to earlier seemed to think it was something to do with the latch and that they would probably just replace it.

CIVI,

Just back from the garage. have been told that my particular problem is frayed wiring in the door loom. This is being replaced once they get the parts in stock. I asked if this was an expensive job.....the customer service rep said "just be glad you are still under warranty "

I'll update again when the job is done - probably a 10 days or so.

I had this problem with mine, I could only lock the drivers door with the key/lock. The control board in the drivers door was replaced, and until yours is you will have NO deadlocking facility on your vehicle.

Today I found that I couldn't get into into my damned boot either on the fob or by key! So I had a choice - take the car back to the dealer and be without it for another day(or two) or investigate it myself. Fault traced to plunger in motor unit binding up for no apparent reason. The unit was cleaned up and now works fine. I can only assume small peice of debris was causing the problem.

Many thanks for your update.

When the dealer says 'frayed wiring in the door loom'. does he mean that there is a possilbe break in a cable or has the insulation been chaffed/damaged.

Interesting to here about 'Nebbish' and him having the same problem. Where in the door is this control board and roughly how much is it to replace?

Still not happy - this realy shouldn't happen to a 3yr old car!

Many thanks all

Update on wiring loom problem : Its been over 6 weeks now & my local skoda dealership (Telfords Carlisle) havent been able to source a replacement loom & in the meantime another VRS owner has been to them with the same fault. Skoda UK cannot source a replacement loom either so the request has gone in to manufacturing - it could be another 4-5 weeks before the part is available.

Now normally I would be jumping up and down at this point, but to be honest Telfords have been very accomodating and honest about the whole thing. Their service guy has just contacted me and offered me a hire car for the duration, until mine is repaired. Only downside is I dont get a 'new' VRS to drive.....it looks like I'm getting a new VW Jetta for a few weeks. At least I'll not be worried about my own car getting nicked as it will be locked up safe and sound at the dearship.

Many thanks for the update - time has moved on but my problem still exists.

It is becoming clear that SKODA may have a QA problem, particularly with their wiring looms (you don't expect this from a top manufacturer). I am glad you are enjoying the courtesy car while yours is hopefully being sorted albiet some time in the near future.

I am looking at moving house soon and may need to sell the Octy to help fund those Solicitors fees etc. I am in two minds as to what car I choose as a replacement.

I is my intention to contact SKODA Customer Services direct with the intention of off loading my disappointment of the cars QA and reliability.

The end of the tale.....:

Finally got my VRS back from the dealership , all fixed up. The repair work was done under warranty (phew!) , heres what was done:

New door lock part no: 3b2837016h

New door foil part no: 1u4868396f

New window motor part no: 1u6959802d

New wiring loom part no: 1u0971120bg

Apparently when after the new wiring loom & door latch were fitted the window motor stopped working (? mmm?) , so that was replaced as well..... I reckon about
