I think I like Stop/Start after all.

Featured Replies

I've jumped ship from diesel to petrol and have just picked up my new 1.2TSI SE L DSG. The salesman when doing the handover mentioned that I had now got stop/start and I said that on past experience I would more than likely have it disabled but having driven home (the long way) I find that I quite like it. It's much more responsive than it was on the Citigo that my wife had before she passed away.

Good service, the saleman swapped my spare wheel over for me and I kept my mats which are still OK so I haven't bought any extras.

I'm going to get it out of the garage again this evening so I can watch the auto headlights at work ( as long as it not raining of course  ).

While 'playing' with the menu I got a message to say that Smartlink could be activated by the dealer but since bluetooth works perfectly for phone calls, music and audiobooks I'm not sure it's of interest to me. What do others think?

LONGEDGE,

Like you I was dubious about having the Stop / Start function on our new Yeti. I have driven a good number of other makes that had the technology and absolutely hated it!!!! on every single one of them. Hence my apprehension of having to have it on our new car. Prior to getting the car I was searching Briskoda for ways to defeat it! - Not now!

In just the first few days, I was amazed at how responsive it is to the actual amount of brake pressure I exert. EG: Brake normally and as I come to a stop, ease off and apply / maintain light pressure to the pedal and I can make the car creep, stop momentarily or completely without the engine engaging Stop / Start function, it is so controllable, I don't need to turn it off in heavy, slow moving traffic! We have had the car now since the end of September and now find we have no need of the "off" button - That was such a nice surprise after all my misgivings before delivery.

As always, my best wishes to all..................Tony

A manual might be a different proposition.

I like it in the auto we have.

Drove my brother-in-laws and yes I found that a light touch of the brake pedal on the verge of creep keeps the engine running. But is it putting pressure on other parts of the DSG gearbox such as the automatic clutch plates?

Select N and let it stop is my attitude

Selecting D starts again

The one thing at the back of my mind is whether the system will be as responsive when everything has worn in a bit. I know with my last Yeti the DSG definitely changed as it settled down and became far less positive. I was never confident enough of it to be able to pull away into traffic when I had 'only just' enough time. In that one respect, I always felt it inferior to a manual gearbox.

For now my big decision is whether to fork out the £150 to activate Smartlink for my iPhone. Apart from 'Google Maps' which I don't need, I don't see any real benefit as the Bluetooth connection works well for the phone, music and audiobooks. I've never used voice control and find the Maxidot/Steering Wheel buttons work for me to make calls. I haven't actually connected to the USB socket yet but am assuming that it will charge the phone if need be.
