Replacing Amundsen Head Unit

Featured Replies

I think my Amundsen Unit has developed a fault and needs to be replaced, my car is 6 months out of warranty!, I spoke to a dealer about replacing it and they said it's going to be in the thousands to source and replacement and fit it, I'm quite annoyed personally I don't think the item was ever fit for purpose, If I have to change the unit and pay these kind of sums then I would like to replace it with something significantly better, does anyone know what head units I can replace it with that will work with the Maxi Dot, Bluetooth and Parking sensors, car management,  I guess I'm going to be quite limited to perhaps may be the Columbus, but wondered if there any other compatible options out there?, can anyone recommend a garage that could replace the Amundsen without charging the earth for it.

It might be that the Bluetooth is built into the Amundsen + (Plus), so replacement will need to be a similar Amundsen +. I'm saying you have an Amundsen + because I'm certain that's what you have. The standard Amundsen would be out of production when your car was built, and they're two different units despite looking the same.

If you can pull the unit out and read the sticker on the side, it'll have a MAC number printed on it. If the MAC number is anything other than a string of zeros then it has Bluetooth. It's the only OEM unit which has it built in, all the rest are a seperate unit usually under the drivers seat.  If your AMC is all zeros then you have Bluetooth installed in the car (not the head unit) so a Columbus would drop straight in pretty much.

Edit:

What's the fault with the unit anyway?

Thanks, various issues, touch screen randomly stops working so can't use sat nav or anything else, GPS is showing off-road, bluetooth being difficult and keeps dropping connections, I haven't upgraded my phone and have tried with various other phones.

Also got a cluster of dead pixels on the screen to boot.

So, many issues then.

GPS showing off road will be the GPS antenna in the base on the rear of the roof most likely, and a new one will need to be fitted. No big issue and not a major expense at perhaps £60 - £80.

The rest of the issues are too much to work with so replacement unit would be the only way. Like I say, check the MAC address and then start hunting for a new unit on Ebay perhaps. One sold in the Classified section on here a few weeks ago...

Do you also have DAB radio?

6 months out of warranty?

Bypass the dealer and speak with Skoda UK directly...

You might not get a free replacement but I'd be expecting a significant goodwill gesture towards the cost and fitting of a replacement.
