eratic display of clock time

Featured Replies

Every time I get in the car the "hour" inidicated on the dashboard clock and on the infotainment display has jumped by several hours.  The "minute" indication stays correct.  Any ideas??

Check the centre console for a 'flux capacitor' and run a scan to see if time circuits have been installed.

Press and hold the radio on/off button for 10 seconds, that will reset the infotainment unit. If fault comes back, garage job.

This happens to me too. Clock jumps am hour every now and then. Reset by holding the power button until screen turns off and turns back on again works.

I'm hoping I can use this to ensure that they upgrade the firmware on the head unit when I take it in for a service next.

I have just bought an Octavia (2015 SE, Bolero infotainment system, with SmartLink activated) — first time Skoda owner! — and it has this problem, hour advances every so often. Minutes stay on track, as far as I can see. Seems to depend on how long since the car was last started, e.g. I did a supermarket shop, when I cam back out an hour or so later, it had avanced an hour or two I think. Next day is was sometime in the year 2023! However another overnight test last night the date was still correct, it was just a couple of hours out I think. So seems somewhat systematic, but also somewhat random...

Took it back to the dealer (it was approved used so should be covered under the warranty I hope), they were able to replicate it, but don't have a fix yet. They are communicating with Skoda about it.

Anyway, I tried the suggestion here, holding power to restart the infotainment system, but it does not fix the issue for me. Rather, as soon as the system boots back up, it has advanced an hour. Also, daylight savings time is turned on, even if I turned it off. E.g., set time, disable DST, reboot, it comes back with DST on and one hour advanced. Note that it's not just a DST thing, as if I also set time, leave DST on, reboot, then when it comes back up, it's still advanced one hour.

Does anyone else have any advice or a definitive fix? Considering whether a factory reset or a reset of all system settings and data (options within the Setup screens on the unit) might fix it, but hesitant in case I get told off for messing around with it if the dealership does come back to me with a fix...

Do you have the time set to "Update from GPS"?

Is there an option in the Bolero for that?

If you wait several minutes does the time correct itself or it stay 1/2/3-hour(s) ahead?

In my Columbus (MIB1) the system is reset almost everytime I get into the car (music starts from the first track on the SD-card, navigation shows VW headquarters in germany as the current location, previous navigation destination is lost etc.

I havent noticed the time change but I know that I have to wait several minutes for everything to reconnect & give me the right information.

I have the latest firmware (after each service) on the Columbus as my dealer is nice & still trying to fix problems I raised 5 years ago when I took the car back under warrenty.

There is no such option, the Bolero does not have navigation, so no GPS.

The time doesn't correct itself, in theory I think it's possible to get time from DAB, but I read the Bolero doesn't do that, the only way to set the time is manually.

Fwiw, anyone following this — in the end the dealer upgraded the firmware on my car (at Skoda's direction) and that has solved the problem. Not sure what version it was before, but now it's 0245 (this is Bolero MIB2 afaik).

Interestingly, the dealer said that Skoda had not had this problem reported to them before. 🤷‍♂️

I recently had an issue with the time and date being reset back to a random time and the date was set back to 01.01.1999. 🤔

That was with the time being set by GPS! I've given up with the navigation system, I use my phone and Google Maps or a good old fashioned Garmin GPS unit.

I'm really starting to wonder about this car and the technology that is being used on it as something's are really weird and behave in irrational ways.
