Chipped paint repair

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm quite new to the forum (been lurking for a while, but not really posting), so apologies if this in the wrong place.

I've managed to chip the paint on the rear door of my Octy III Scout (on the crease just behind the door handle), I'm usually really careful when I open the doors, but was distracted and ended up opening it into a metal post.  . The chip's about 5mm in size, and pretty deep (it looks similar to a stone chip). Feeling gutted as my car's only 8 months old and I'm usually paranoid about the paintwork (I park at at the far end of car parks, away from other cars to avoid people opening doors into it)

I've attached a photo of the damage:

The car's on PCH, so I need a repair that's good enough to not be visible when I hand the car back at 2 years old.

I know it's hard to tell from a photo, but is this likely to be something a smart repair may be able to fix, or am I going to need a proper respray job doing? Can anyone recommend a repairer in the North Manchester/Bury/Rochdale/Bolton area? I'd ideally prefer it to be a small company that takes care to do a proper job, rather than a big franchise.

Thanks

Mask thr area off. Just pop a tiny bit of filler in it to make it level. When dry flat it, then touch up with touch up paint, with a small brush.

PCH expects some small chips and dents, so this will pass inspection no problem.

I believe up to 10p size or a 5cm surface scratch is acceptable in the BVRLA regs.

Thanks for the advice on filling it, but tbh I'm not that confident doing it myself (don't want to make it worse!) and would prefer to get a professional repair for a better result

My friends Seat Leon 290 ST had a similar chip.

He used a company called ''Chips Away'' and it cost him £30.

Its a mobile service so they come to you...

If I remember correctly, a member called 'Auditek' runs a detailing service near Warrington and could definitely you? Drop him a PM.
