Changed the rear pads on the Octavia the other weekend but had to take the calliper off in the process. I wasn't too succesfull bleeding the system, it's ok but not as firm as it should be. What are the brake circuits on the Octavia and what order should the brakes be bled? I see from reading some other posts there is a bleed valve on the master cylinder too, I assume thats bled last?

is there any actual need to bleed the brakes if your just changing pads? I normally just remove the res. cap, push the piston back in gently, slide in new pads and call it quits at that....

Indeed not but I had to take the calliper off the car as I accidently let the piston go too far and let the seal come off the piston . I couldn't get it back on in situ so took it off the car. Also discovered the pistons screw back in rather than just pushing in.

Arh... my Pug 306 you screwed the pistons in on the rear, but not the fronts.... Dunno what the approved method is, but I used to think that you were meant to do them diagonally. Maybe say it is time to replace the brake fluid and bleed it through it pressurised kit.

Thanks for the replies. I've been using an Eezibleed pressure kit, it's been pretty good in the past on other cars. Just think i'm missing something or not bleeding it in the right order on the old Octavia.

Thats the kit my father uses... I was going to pop home and change my fluid in a few weeks time.

I used the eezibleed thing on mine. Started with the wheel furthest from the master cylinder, nsr then osr then nsf then osf. Worked OK on my Octy.

Is there any tricks to bleeding the brakes on the old fashioned way? Just the basic method, or the ignition have to be on or anything. I have bled many cars, but no one with modern ABS.

No special methods? What spec brake fluid is specified, dot4 or 5.1?

Nothing special required. DOT 4 is fitted as std.

If pumping the traditional way dont push the pedal all the way down, but for the matter of a few quid i'd get an ez bleed kit.

Can the piston on the rear calipers be pushed in or must it be screwed in?

It needs to be screwed in with the correct tool.

On the left side, the shape was right, but the distance between them was too short.
