vRS Half Leather Seats

Featured Replies

I appreciate this isn't a big issue, however it's something I've noticed recently so looking to see if anyone with half leather seats has experienced this!

The ribbed cloth (or whatever it is) on the drivers seat base was very taught when I picked my car up (4K Miles). Over the last 10 weeks and 3K miles, I've noticed that the seat cloth has 'loosened' a little on one side and instead of sitting taught against the base, the cloth has raised a little to form a 'wave' for want of a better word. This is especially noticeable after a journey (I'm 15 Stone, so although no lightweight, I'm far from pushing maximum density!). The cloth settles a little bit, but the loosened area is still visible (and annoying me  :| more than anything else)

There's probably absolutely nothing I can do about it and I certainly can't see anyone looking at a seat cover after 18 Months on the road, however I'm concerned the seat base cloth might get 'baggy' over a longer period of time. Just wondered if anyone else had any issues with the seat base?

A picture would clarify things.

The materials are not really well wearing. Others have had problems with the leather scratching, from jean rivets I expect.

You will always get some sagging of the seat base. Its wear and tear. But if it starts splitting get on to a dealer.

I'm not sure a picture would show it, unfortunately, with all the black cloth. I agree, it's probably 'normal' for the fabric, however the seat fabric on my 9 Year old Octy  was still as tight as a drum when I traded her, as was the seating on my 13 Year old Leon (although the rest of the car was falling apart!!). I could always get myself a nice sheep skin, or perhaps a bead cover, if things got worse  :p

I think it's just something you will have to live with. My leather seat base area looks like a car that's 10+ years old and not 2.

Looks ****e but im not one of those who can float onto or off the seat to avoid wear and tear.

Quote dealer 'its just fair wear and tear' when I asked them if it was normal.

Its just a car, and no doubt you will buy another at some point in the future so I wouldn't worry yourself greatly.

The brake discs will probably be rotten in another 15K so brace yourself for that one ;-)

Yip mine is the same. Obviously skoda are using cheaper materials as the years march on. Seats look crap with the sagging cloth. The plastics aren't of the same quality either. Having said that still like the car.

Car does the job - big boot transports family no bother. But in the case of things like seat leather wearing quickly and such like I would not be foolish to buy one of these outright. Kias and hyundais wear better these days.

Skoda seat covers, particularly the leatherette and alcantara based ones seem to stretch and reveal unsightly bagging..normally on the seat base.

Had this with a Mk2 vRS Blackline with full leather...after 6 months the base looked awful....leather conditioner would more or less bring it back (and remove the sheen) but after a few weeks sitting on it went back to how it was.

My Mk3 Elegance with leather/alcantara suffered bagging on the drivers seat base too....the leatherette on the bolsters was reasonably hard wearing (in that they didnt crack) but creased and scratched all too easily.

Only way around it is to buy a Skoda with all cloth seating...seem to fair alot better.

I have a theory that cheap cloth will wear much better than cheap leather*. We'll see how it works out. Only done 9000 miles in 18 months so far, but the seats still look like new and they've not needed any looking after or conditioning of any sort. The fabric seats on my 13 year old 120k Focus still look good too.
