USB audio through AUX socket

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

New to this part of the forum so hi!!

I'm just coming out of a highly modified MK1 Fabia vRS to a standard MK2 Octavia vRS TFSI and was wondering if anyone has been successful in finding an adapter that will enable you to play music from a USB stick from the AUX port in the centre armrest?

Thanks in advance,

Rob

You won't through the aux connection. It can't work.

Connects2 is an option to replace the cd changer but that's about it.

You'd be better off copying the contents of the USB drive to an SD card and you will not only be able to listen to it, but control it too as that wouldn't be possible via AUX.

Standard stereo doesn't have an sd slot though, guess I'll have to replace it...

Any suggestions on some good ones that won't break the bank?!

A Stream MP3 or Bolero won't break the bank. Check compatibility first though but I wouldn't have thought there'd be any insurmountable problems.

A stream mp3 won't be any better and May be what the op already has.

So true. I'd forgotten that you had to play mp3's via the CD's. Oops. Bolero (or RCD310/RCD510) it is then.

Id fit the Alpine Ezi Dab as that allows DAB but also usb playing and phone connectivity as well. I had looked at other headunits but wanted to keep the std headunit and did not want to spend loads on a better Skoda headunit.

I upgraded mine to a kenwood dnx520vbt

Yes, I think a change of unit will be required in one way or another to get what you want.. A used bolero shouldn't break the bank. You may need to factor in the can bus upgrade as well depending on production date of car.

The SD slot is quite useful but there are quite a few practical file / folder limits to be aware of and in my experience, because of those, it doesn't make much sense to go above 8GB. So you will probably use multiple cards depending on your library size.

Bit of a pain converting everything to MP3 as well if you library is in another format.  Also like mine!

All of that is exactly why I am going the Ezi dab route, as nothing needs upgrading or coding etc.

I have a bolero in mint condition with user code if you interested :)

The 2012 Blaupunkt Bolero I fitted in my 2008 runs a 16gb card no problems. Just have standard folders, no special root folders or any of that nonsense.

Thanks guys, I think I will look into the aftermarket options as I'd like Bluetooth also ideally. Will check what model is in the car currently when I collect it this week
