But you can get a 1.4TSi SEL inside this budget if you buy something 1 yr old. You could argue "don't buy a 1.0TSi SE for £15k". Regarding the scuffs and scratches, both myself and my brother-in-law bought 1yr old Octavias and there's nothing wrong with them. Mine has a small dull patch on the rear quarter where it looks like someone cleaned it with something abrasive, but it's small and quite mild and I don't really care. The Elegance (mine is now 3yrs old) is a much nicer place to sit, in my opinion, than the SE, so it all depends whether you prioritise the spec over the newness or vice versa.

Out of interest, is 'newness' a real word? If it isn't it should be!

Yea the elegance model looks lovely inside tbh. I considered a 1.0tsi brand new but 15k is just that bit too much money atm.

The ones that come up so far are in black though, which will show the scratches and scuffs even more.

Think i've settled on the mk3 1.4 elegance model in manual, just gotta find the right colour now.

Yes it is.

Noun  "The quality of being new or original"

I've had a 2010 Mk2 FL 2.0 Tsi from new, now on 75K miles. On the whole extremely reliable, and the cam chain/folower issue is maybe a little overstated.  I would say however that due to the design of the Mk2 direct injection you WILL get problems from 40K on of the inlet manifold and inlet tracts getting "coked" up with carbon deposits that will cause the faults that will put the dashboard engine warning light on. This was not covered by my Warranty Direct warranty. A replacement inlet manifold is around £500 at a main dealer and cleaning the inlet tracts is anything from £400 up (see youtube for DIY advice).  You can of course just take a view of resetting the faults and ignoring until performance is badly impaired, but do this at your own risk.  This is a common issue on other contemporary direct injection petrol cars.

As I understand it The Mk3 2.0 has mods (extra injectors) that should overcome these issues.

Also you may be facing a big bill around 40-50K for replacement brake discs and pads. My car is still on its original exhaust which is another potential biggish bill if buying a late Mk2.

Personally I would certainly go for the Mk3 just because the standard Mk2 is now quite outdated in some ways. When I bought my VRS you couldn't even specify factory fitted bluetooth for example.

£9 seems like a lot of money for a 6/7 year old Octy to me, especially if you've got significant finance costs on top.

Well i looked at 3 mk3s today, and they were all terrible, scuffs, dirt etc. Can't believe how some people treat their cars.

Is it a dealer selling these cars?, they could always use the considerable difference between what they paid for the car and are selling it for to make good.

Dunno, I think I'd buy a reasonable car for £9 !!

(So long as it was a 1/24th, not 1/32nd)
