Damage to drivers side wing mirror

Featured Replies

Ok, I'm going to try not to swear but it's going to be hard!

I've had my 64 plate red Skoda Octavia VRS MK3 for ONE month and when going out this afternoon I noticed that someone had hit my drivers side wing mirror causing damage and just left! It's not major damage but the casing and the indicator light strip especially will need replacing!

My wing mirror is black (from the black pack) and I'm wondering if I can just replace the casing and if I can how much will it be?

I know this isn't the most serious damage but to have my car damaged after a month is seriously annoying!

The top painted cap unclips and can be painted or replaced.

The lower bit is part of the housing, so a new mirror would be required.

Have a look on superskoda for prices or skodadop.

So I need a whole new wing mirror? Seriously?

Hardly worth it for a light scratch.

Clean it up. Polish it a bit, most of the scratch will come out.

I wish it was a scratch.. the bottom of the wing mirror casing has come unclipped and the plastic/glass covering the indicator is smashed (well a chunk has come out!)

Hi. Feel your pain. While stationary in two lanes of traffic a motorcyclist speed between the rows and just clipped my wing mirror. The black pack casing flew off as did the motorcyclist. Though only minor damage, the darker side of me wishes he had hit it harder so his face had had a close encounter with the road but hey, not angry anymore. To business, I got out and collected the casing and once home found the clips were all broken on the casing the front frame bracket - check this properly as you'll probably find you need the frame/bracket part too. Fortunately the indicator was fine. Ordered the parts that night off superskoda - 13euro for the frame/bracket and 45 for the black pack shell (rip off). 98 euro total as the shipping to NZ is also the same price as the parts. There's a good youtube video of how to pull it all apart so you'll be sweet.

For anyone else with this problem:

My drivers mirror was clipped recently; the top cover was fine but the mirror surround and indicator unit were trashed together with the bottom cover. So, you can replace the indicator unit and the mirror surround but a new bottom cover is not available separately, you have to buy a new wing mirror to replace that!!

Fortunately (be thankful for small mercies!) the £136 wing mirror assembly from our local dealer did include the mirror surround and the indicator unit so it was just a matter of disassembling the new unit to retrieve the parts I needed.

I found a video on Superskoda (it's for the upgrade of a puddle light which my vehicles does not have) that shows the disassembly, but there is a small omission (for my vehicle anyway) that relates to the removal of the mirror surround. The red rectangles on the image below show where you need to release clips to free the surround (after undoing the screws under the stars). The one on top behind the frame is obvious and appears in the video but the one at the front lower left is not. You need to get a small screwdriver in there and prise the clip outwards whilst pulling the frame towards you.

The clip in the red oval does not need to be released to free the mirror frame - that clip is one of those retaining the lower cover.

Reassembly was a doddle - hope this helps!
