Vw caddy Rear anti roll bar on fabia vrs?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have tried searching but sure I saw this as a mod for the Fabia vrs somewhere?

If so which caddy Rarb would be the one to go for or are they the same?

Any help appreciated

G

There are a couple of options of RARB that are specifically for the Fabia vRS.

Any reason you ask about the Caddy RARB?

hey Jars,

Just because I was under the impression it came in at 22mm and would stiffen the arse up. Coilovers are being fitted next week and thought it compliment them.

I know of the other options but this vw caddy one is bugging me, I know I saw someone had dont it to a Vrs somewhere!

Oh, and budget is a reason now...I've thrown about 3.5K at this car with and the wife is starting to not buy in to my " It was £25 love " speak. :bandit:

22mm will not 'stiffen the arse up' it'll make it SOLID, no idea what my Whiteline is but it's nowhere near 22mm and it's plenty stiff enough even on the middle setting.

Cheers sep,

If you think that would be too much then I take your advice.  Do you think im enough with the AP coilovers for now? Or do you think say a whiteline rarb will transform the way the car behaves?

I drive long winding highland with the odd mountain pass which is twisty.

Next week I fit new top mounts and the coilovers ( setting 40mm drop ) plus a few polybushes here and there and short drop links.  I know the fabia handling is a bit like trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear and i hoped those mods would do the job.

Or am I missing out on something i really should buy?

Feedback welcome and i will check back in tomorrow

Thanks

G

Whiteline RARB is 20mm ,Jabba RARB is 23mm, and H&R is 25mm.

All pretty much do the same thing.

You need a RARB but don't go too stiff or you'll just lose the back before the front goes, I like the car to drift all four and stay neutral, that way you can leave your foot in.

The Fabia doesn't handle, it's geometry simply isn't right, but it will corner hard, make sure you polybush the front wishbones and add a RARB because the rear beam is too flexible without, the beam bushes are already solid, ARB bushes do nothing except locate the thing and don't go too low or you'll just bounce round corners which is VERY scary at speed when you hit a small bump and the wheel leaves the deck while your cranked.

You want to stay planted without pogo'ing, lots of people go too low for the look and ruin the handling, with lowering more is not better, there's an optimum compromise between a lowered roll centre and retaining decent bump absorption, remember your suspension is heavily compressed when you corner hard and if you're already near the bump stops then there's nowhere to go and the tyre walls are the only things that are moving which means your contact patch is varying dramatically in size and a big 'off' is on the cards.

Don't forget that when you lower it the front gains negative camber which increases front end grip, the same is not true at the back, it's a tricky balancing act if you actually want to drive it rather than just look at it.

IMO fit the coilovers and try it. Don't go too low if you're driving on ****e roads or you risk losing the sump and then possibly the engine.

Cheers Steavo for all the info in one place. Saved me looking as the whiteline is just the size for me without stiffening too much.

Sep,  Informative and allows a bit of thought. You say the whiteline does not stiffen too much from first hand experience and as with steavo's post above I can see it's the thinnest of the aftermarket Rarbs, and adjustable which I didnt realise. So with those two post's in mind I think I'm away to order one today.

Vindaloo :  Thank's for that bud, and Im no going too low. I'm 34 now and the day's of scraping grooves in the road are over for me   I only ever wanted a 40mm drop in fabia and keep the 16's rolling all but painted black to match the body and grill. ( stealth to creep up on that bloody k1 that takes my mirror off each morning )  It did cross my mind to just run the coillies but as I do have a bit of extra paper this month I think I might just as well spend it on the whiteline Rarb.

Still it bug's me on vw caddy Rarb tho,  I swear I saw members either on a polo / Ibiza somewhere as an A1 mod for the rear end.  I have typed in google until I'd worn my nails down but nothing!  But I swear blind..............

That's me got my best route anyway, cheers fella's

See for a rear strut brace ( upper ) behind rear seats, there are loads listed for ibiza 6L ,   they ok for mine sep?

Dunno, I wouldn't bother with a strut brace on a road car, they don't do anything meaningful (apart from block useful access to your boot or engine), you can't generate large enough forces to distort the shell on road legal tyres.

And so concludes today.  Thanks for the advice sep, and others.

Finished wiring the boost gauge in and just gently broke the news to the wife about the coilover's being ordered......hence the reaso im on here in a room on my own.

Cheers all.

This is an interesting statement! My car skips when I hit a bump and its so annoying. It makes for untrustworthy handling, on smooth roads it sticks amazingly, bumpy roads it just jumps side to side...

My car really isn't that low? Can this be the only thing that causes this issue! Maybe it just is too low, thanks in advance

Well on previous topics etc I have learnt it depends on the type of coilover or  spring bought. bought and on the rear maybe your bump stops are wrong, meaning your suspension cant travel.  Fabia ones have to be cut down or ibiza ones fitted im sure.

Give some more info on what set up you have?

Mine is standard, and skips on bumpy corners - it can cause clenching !

That's caused by knackered standard sachs shocks, they weren't very good when new, god knows how bad they are now.

It's more to do with the shock absorbers, bump stops are only there to prevent physical damage to the bodyshell when the shock bottoms out, poor shocks are the cause of most handling problems, they bottom out far too easily.
