Hello there! Just got my self Skoda Octavia MK1 2004 1.6i model! Fantastic car! So the car runs fine no problems with engine! But my dash board warning lights (ECL, ABS, ESP and Handbrake) are blinking and beeps 3 times when I turn on the car! But not regular flash. Verry dim like, in day time you can't see them! Also when I pull handbrake light is not working, and when i start up the car battery light does not come up. I was reading a lot about this and I think the fault is in Alternator and Abs system Any solutions or experience? Thank you!

Ok, let's start with the alternator, because if that isn't working correctly it can throw fault codes regarding pretty much every other electrical system!

 

Since the battery light isn't showing on switch on, I'd suspect that one or both of the alternator load wires are broken. These can be continuity tested, and if need be replaced, cheaply.

Hello Octaviamk1, I have the exakt same problem a real pain to deal with... How did everything go ??

So the 3 beeps and blinking hand brake light are gone it was brake fault (rear) changed the brake wires! I also changed the alternator and the ACL, ESP, ASB are still there but they stoped blinking now they are just still but still dim! And the Battery light doesn't work but I have to change the load wires like you sed!

@Octaviamk1 - My whole point way back in February was that if those load wires are broken then the alternator doesn't supply current even though it works perfectly when the connections are remade. No matter where you are, there's no point in replacing a perfectly good part because a wire is broken.

I agree, personally speaking, a 100% of my electrical problems were due to wires and connections, not parts. Ever since I replaced the alternator-to-battery wire, added some extra grounding wires and rebuilt the fuse box, all problems have gone.

After a while, did you have any problems with the wires? And you changed something else so that the problem is eliminated? Tell me what's wrong, why the engine at all refuses to work?

I am just trying to emphasize that many problems are caused by the wires and not the parts themselves. I was facing problems with low charging voltage, melting fuse boxes, flashing dash lights, dim lights etc. For more details on the fixes see the link in my signature.
