Did you fit a genuine VAG coolant sensor? It was a common problem for eb*y non VAG sensors to fail on the 1.9 Mk1 Octy and you may not know it as it is actually two sensors in one package - one for the display and one for the ECU. I assume it will be similar on your engine but I don't know for sure.

Nope one from gsf.

I will buy one from skoda tomorrow.

And maybe thermostat as well as its blowing ice cold.

  • Mine is a manual but I get much more mpg than that. I have an EGR insufficient flow fault (replacement on its way) causing a MEL light on my dash and even with winter fuel I'm getting 70mpg on the das

  • It does seem on the low side. Check each wheel for heat after a run. Don't touch the disks! I had a similar issue when my OSF caliper was binding. MPG went right down. Heat from the wheel was quite no

The way the climate control works is by mixing hot and cold air via servo controled flap valves. If a flap is stuck toward one end you can end up with total hot or cold air in the cabin.

Before changing the thermostat do a temperature check on all water hoses with your hand to validate thermostat failure. Could also indicate whether you have an airlock in the heater circuit.

Yeah ill check it tomorrow. It was fine until i changed the thermostat so must be an issue there. Might be an air lock as i was in a rush to work.

Any update on this problem?
