Dent and chip on swage line

Featured Replies

Hi all

Our Yeti L&K lease car goes back in a few months. We have looked after it well, as you need to, but someone put a lovely dent on the rear passenger door swage line.

Its right on the crease, but is very small (maybe 5mm) but is almost like a crater. The paint has also chipped.

Its likely this will be charged for by VWFS when it goes back.

First. Has anyone got any ideas on their likely charge for this damage? The car otherwise is fine.

I have had a quote for a well recommended dent repairer. He says he can sort it for £100 but won't sort the paint. He says we can get some chip repair paint and then he will do the touch up, or that we can just leave it as just the stone chip will probably be ok when it's returned.

If we decide to get some touch up paint, who does the best one and do you think he will be able to make it in noticeable?

Basically, do we leave it and pay the VWFS charge on return, just repair the dent (and risk VWFS still making a charge), or try and do the dent and the paint (again risking still being charged by VWFS)?

Cheers

You may find reading the attached of some use. It is "The industry fair wear and tear standard" for drivers of leased and financed cars by the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association.

Thanks Colin. I have that already.

The guides usually specifically say small dents are ok, but not on the swage line. It also suggests stone chips are ok. Therefore if I fix the dent so it's not noticeable and leave the chip, in theory I should be ok. But who knows?

Ideally I would like to know what the charge VWFS would make if I handed it back as is. I would hate to pay to have some kind of a repair and then still be charged the same by VWFS!
