Weird Noise? Help

Featured Replies

I was wondering whether anyone on here would be able to tell me what this noise is.

I have a Skoda Octavia mk3 2014 vRS TSI DSG and whenever I start the car and begin to move, I hear a thud sort of noise coming from the axle area. I only seem to hear it whenever I'm reversing out of my driveway and for the first couple metres driving off (probably because it's too noisy to hear after that). It also seems to happen whenever I press the brakes aswell like something is hitting the axle (I know there probably isn't, but its hard to explain the sound).

Does anyone else have something like this? I read somewhere a while ago someone heard a thud noise when they go over speed bumps, I wonder if this is something similar? Not sure whether it's normal to make that noise as it drives fine, or if there is something wrong. From reversing to driving off, it would happen around 4 or 5 times.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Cheers, Chris

Typo

Had this a few times.

Usually drop links or anti roll bushes that twist and clunk as you pull away.

Cheers, Is it a bad thing? Do I need to do anything about it?

Nothing "serious" but definitely work getting looked at as it'll only get worse either way.

They are just parts related to the steering/suspension that keep things nice, smooth and quiet.

Drop links are cheap as chips but anti roll bushes can sometimes be a little more expensive to fit etc.

Drove around today to check the noise, and it only seems to do it for the first couple metres then stops when braking etc after that. Could it be the suspension or something just compressing or something after being stationary for over 10 hours? My old car would make a thud when it's had the handbrake on for about 2 days then moving it. Could it be something similar with brakes/suspension?

Is the noise repetitive, or just once?
