Next steps for more fun

Featured Replies

Hey guys

My VRS has had quite an extensive list of upgrades which I'll list shortly.  This car is a hell of a lot of fun as it stands but I'm wondering what else could be done to make it even more so?!  The first thought is....  At 183k miles done (though all very well cared for miles and no expense spared on maintenance)...  How much longer does my little baby realistically have left?

Here is a list of what's been done so far:

Engine/Trans:

Allard VT2 hybrid PD150 turbo
Forge FMIC
Sachs organic clutch kit (unsure if this is single/mass flywheel kit - is it easy to check?!)
Magnex decat
Blueflame catback exhaust
PD160 intake
Shark remapped recorded at 208 - 330lbs/ft in 2010 (I need to paperchase to see if there has been work done since the last remap but from what the previous owner stated - this remap was done done post work)

Suspension/handling:

Eibach lowering springs (-25mm)
Seat sport strut brace
Seat cupra Console bushes
312mm audi tt brakes
Jabbasport rear anti roll bar

I'm new to the Skoda scene and in all honesty - new to the "having a car faster than I can cycle" scene aswell.

Any input/thoughts/suggestions greatly appreciated

Cheers

Pete

I found the more I've modded mine the less fun I get out of it day to day.

Far to easy to get get to licence loosing speed.

I honestly had more fun in my old crappy 1.4 petrol Fiesta that I had to rag the t!ts off to get any kinda speed!

I still have my fairly similar spec vRS as you and still love it, but it's not all that fun to boot around all the time :)

I can understand that to be honest!

Just with all the work that's been done I wondered if it was close to being a finished project but not quite there and would like to take it to the final step (without going all out huge bucks ofcourse).

There's something ear to ear grinningly good about being able to zoom away from the dickhead town tailgaters that plague this area though.

It's due a timing belt kit anyway - maybe I should just be practical (Y)  Not like it lacks power as it stands anyway I suppose.  Just like I say the unfinished project thought process made me curious.

Any idea on what sort of miles I can expect to do before it's nigh on going to be dead (in terms of engine and parts)?

Yeah I agree. Loving showing up the odd Beamer or Merc when they're being a douche!

Some pollybushes for the dog bone lower engine mount and wishbone bushes will help a little, something I don't see on your list that I personally noticed a positive from.

The only other thing is an LSD, which is on my list, but will be bucks.

If well maintained the engine will go for hundreds of k's, can't say the same for the bodywork :p

I'll have a look into that - LSD isn't something I'd be up for doing for the amount of money output quite frankly!

Bodywork is already starting to show some love requirement but that's understandable for a 12 year old car nearing 200k.  Definetely in better nick than some newer and less miles done cars I've come across!  Rear wheel arch and rear driver side door need sorted / replaced but the rest isn't too bad really.

I'll just keep it on the go as long as I can and enjoy the **** out of it :D Thanks

Limited Slip Diff

Bigger Injectors

Bigger Turbo

Water/Meth injection kit... :bandit:

Still on 16" wheels? If planning to go for 17" alloys you could always upgrade the front brakes, some more stopping power is always welcome, Brembo's from a Leon, or Tarox 6 pots/AP racing calipers.

JRJG

Wot no decent shock absorbers?

They'd be at the top of my list.

Simply missed off surely given the money spent to get where it currently is?!?!?

I know, such a glaring omission, especially since the OP lives in a country with such sensational roads, it could simply be a town car, hence no big brakes or sexy suspenders.

I didn't do the work on it.

To my knowledge while sticking to 16" wheels the 312 brakes are as big as you can go anyway?

I'm trailing through the FSH at the moment - so far I've found spring replacements and shock replacement but no note of what so I'd assume just something standard.

After looking this is something that hasn't been done.  Is it something that's worth the bucks?

Essential if you like to get out of town and away from the traffic light grand prix, missed that it has 312's already, they're plenty good enough.

Echoing what's been said in the first post. With all the modifications done to my car it brilliantly fun on track but for day to day it's not. I'm having a lot more fun driving my Courtesy car which is a 1.0 auto lupo.

I would recommend a LSD as the difference they make to these is amazing but Id stick with what you have and just look after it.

Oh and in reference to the flywheel, if you put it in neutral with the clutch out and the car sounds broken then you have a SMF lol.

Shocks, shocks, shocks, all day long. If the eibachs have been fitted a significant time (>5 years), shocks plus new topmounts etc. And shorter bump stops for the rear.

Shocks should be to suit the springs as Eibach lower by 25mm.

Day to day.... Cruise control is an easy upgrade. I'd recommend the boot nets but Skoda ones are NLA.

Skoda mudflaps for at least the front. Stops mud and crap making lurid lines up the doors. Rears flaps for balance but do SFA and require some trimming to fit.
