Hey guys after 1 month of owning my mk1 vrs on bc coilovers iv had enough , this car has to be the most harsh crashy rough riding car iv ever had its making me hate the car, i have a mk1 mx5 on good coilovers and its not half as bad , i now just want the most comfy wafty ride possible , im going to change the wheels for 15" and a 60 profile tyre . Can somebody tell me if the standard vrs suspension is my best option for comfort or even normal fabia suspension , i dont care if it looks crap i love the car otherwise but the ride is one of the worst i ever had, also think it might have cupra console bushes as its super boomy from 1100-1500 rpm?

The standard suspension is pretty comfortable. BC coilovers are very very good but they are designed for the track. You can adjust the damping but they will still be rock hard even in there softest settings. 

Correct tyre size for 15" wheels is 195/50 15, 60 profile will be far too big.

 

Console bushes don't affect the comfort, it might have a hateful rock hard dogbone bush installed.

 

Simply fit brand new Eibach springs and Bilstein B4 shocks all round for good comfort and decent handling at a sensible price.

It's got a massive diesel lump in front and a mini-truck gearbox. It's never going to have a decent low(er) speed ride quality. My Impreza on 18s is more supple than my Fabia on 16s.

 

Best compromise is the aforementioned Eibach springs (for the VRS) or similar that will drop the VRS by 25mm. Must also fit matching dampers.

The bc's are very very good but yeah i have them on the softest setting and on anything but perfect new roads its very harsh

Actually i was looking at the eibach option with dampers but was worried it would not make much difference but on the other hand people on here seem very happy with them . 

Skoda fitted Eibach for their official sports suspension upgrade because they work fine with standard Sachs dampers, think of the B4's as OEM+ because they're better than Sachs but not firmer, just better body control (superior rebound damping).

The EIbach Pro springs as mentioned will be a good option but Bilstein don't actually list the B4 dampers for the VRS model so you'd need to go for the B8 which would give you the complete B12 kit.

How about Koni FSDs (Frequency Selective Damper). Normally soft, then stiffen up when you want them to be.

Std suspension is pretty good on this car once you also sort out the console bushes.

I think I had more movement thru bushes than suspension originally as the body roll doesn't seem so bad now even though I'm on standard!

 

I've gone to HR springs dropped and back again, I wouldn't bother again in fact would selectively purchase a car to be better balanced on this before buying it.

In fact my O3 vRS with sports suspension is pretty much bang on in this respect and I would not tinker.

 

The look isn't great ( does look high from front but not as bad as the std car) but would say the suspension is pretty well tuned for all round conditions which is perfect for UK roads so if thats your driver, stick with standard springs.

Not for the kiddies and the slammed look but very good for comfort.

To avoid starting a new thread: 

Which bushes need replacing for a general 'they've done 115k so will be tired by now' overhaul? 

I'm replacing both rear shocks as one is leaking slightly, so I imagine the other isn't far off. 

I also have an irritating squeak when going over speed bumps, as well as a squeak when getting into the car. 

So which ones are needing changed: Console bushes, Lower arm bushes, Anti roll bar bushes?

All of the above and more, are there any that I have missed out? 

I am planning on doing them all, just so I can tick them all off. Just need an idea as to what I need to buy so I can budget for it. Not uprating, just replacing with OEM or as good as.

Console bushes needed doing even when the car was brand new, ARB bushes will have had it by now but you don't need to upgrade them, they don't do anything except locate the ARB, just replace them.

 

That's it.

 

Uprate the console bushes, OE are awful.

They truly are. If you do its apparently easy to go poly, I apologise for getting the cupra X ones and don't think they got fitted easily ( or quite square, according to my mot guys) to the unit I used to replace them. Have been fine since though in regard to "play" since being done.

I didn't find ARB bushes that easy due to seized bolts etc, and I'm not entirely sure there was much improvement by doing them BTW. Console bushes are the main like he says ^^^

I know, they don't make any difference to the handling but worn out they allow the ARB to rattle slightly which is annoying.
