Can't catch a rattle :(

Featured Replies

Hi there!

I'm chasing tow rattle that were developed (car is just under 10k km). Were not there as brand new for sure.

First is coming somewhere from the right (at least the illusion of it!). I've checked :

1. front seat level handle

2. upper door hand handles (make similar noise when twisted)

3. belts when in unused position (the limiter was suspected)

4. any small stuff that the child might have left

it's a hollow knock, when driving on surfaces and the chassis make short bumpy moves.

I've read for some cables in the doors here in the forum but no idea how can I locate this.

Second is coming from the dash from the right. It's a like a buzzzzz. For this I've checked the glove box, and the ventilation openings.

Any help/advices/suggestions are welcomed! :)

Hi, there are several threads on this topic if you do a search in the Octavia 3 forum. The B pillars are known to rattle a bit. The only mitigating factors if you can call them that , are that I notice the B pillar rattle only on fairly rough road surfaces... most of rural England! The cold weather can exacerbate the dash rattle, i.e might disappear as the ambient temperature rises.

Could both be due to fuel lines under the car, there's a Skoda fix for it.

Common one under right hand side, especially at specific revs (usually round 2200ish) is the fuel line. As above, known issues with fix.

Also as above, seatbelt button/adjusters can rattle/buzz - various fixes around using cloth tape or toothpick or whatever as a wedge.

The seat high adjusters can rattle/buzz against the seat plastic. I put two small felt self-adhesive dots under the which fixed that.

I still have 1 more bad rattle/buzz from left passenger area which I need to fix, then I am good.

Rough surface and cold weather will make these worse...

I had once the most annoying rattle on my Yeti....tracked it down after many months of frustration to the little plastic clip which rests on the windscreen (some sort of doc clip)

Front Passenger Seat belt fastener, the red bit on the top rattles. Plug the seatbelt in and see if the rattle goes.

That was a rattle I had, took me months to find it.  Complete unit changed under warranty.

Sunglasses holder is another.................

Ahh - the "Simply Clever" parking ticket holder.

Fortunately my seems quiet so far, though I imagine with it vibrating on the windscreen it could be a hard one to track down!

Yep sunglasses holder got me... spent months trying to work out where this really annoying rattle was coming from. almost sounded like it was coming from the passenger air vent, but then the missus thought it was coming from the drivers side... and it was only occurring at random times so we just couldn't pin point it as the sound was obviously being thrown around in all directions. Anyway just by chance i had taken my sunnies out and halfway through a drive put them back in the holder and the rattle came back and i managed to put two and two together that the rattle was the sunnies banging about in there. Probably needs some felt or rubber lining in it.

Yep, a number of us have had the the issue and had it fixed. I was able to demonstrate the problem and they fixed in about 45 minutes under warranty.

I believe they just pump a bit of foam into the metal channel.

what I'm after is a dumb knock on uneven surfaces.
