Smartlink satnav brightness - day or night?

Featured Replies

I have recently had Smartlink installed at  the ridiculous dealer price and have this problem.  When using the SATNAV application the screen is always on the nightime setting if I have my running lights on "AUTO".  If I turn off my lights then the screen reverts to the daylight setting.  I can't find anyway of changing the screen brightness, any ideas or have I faulty setup?  It is too dark to see the map during the day!!

I had Smartlink as a factory option and my headlights (bi-zenons) are always on AUTO. If the headlights are not illuminated the satnav screen is on daylight but if the headlamps come on the satnav screen switches to night time.

I get the same, bugs me a bit but I live with it.

If you mean that you are using the satnav on a mobile phone through the Smartlink then I assume that the brightness is governed by the mobile and not the car as is the case with Amundsen and Columbus?

The only thing I could suggest is to change the AUTO lights to come on late in the car settings.

Try this....

In the Navigation main menu, press  → Map.
■ Day/night: -Selection of map display colour
■ Day - coloured
■ Night - in shades of grey
■ Automatic - Map with light or dark coloured background; the background
changes once you turn on the lights (does not apply to daytime running
lights)

Are you using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay? There's a way to switch the day/night switchover to the phone's settings in Android Auto. With the phone disconnected from the car, open the Android Auto app. Press the 3 line menu icon (hamburger icon) in the top left, then select About. Tap the header image repeatedly, until a popup appears telling you that you have enabled developer settings. Once you have enabled developer settings, press the 3 dots in the top right, and go to Developer Settings. There you can switch it from car controlled to phone controlled.

I use Smartlink on my car and the Google maps doesn't appear to have any way of altering the settings, as it appears to be controlled by the Carplay settings, which on my iphone has no settings you can adjust other than app positions on screen. It's possible to change the settings for the onboard naviagation by pressing the view button on the screen and you have the options of auto, day or night, auto but this doesn't change anything for the google maps as I've tried it myself. The only option to you is to turn up the screen brightness by going Menu, Settings, Screen, Brightness - change the options there, this may help you enough

Google Maps is available through CarPlay? I think you mean Apple Maps :-P

It seems that as part of the CarPlay and Android Auto inputs from the car systems there is a link to the cabin illumination, just like there is for old-school headunits for their backlighting. Android Auto developer mode lets you tell the system to follow the phone's day/night mode switch instead, I'm not sure for CarPlay.
