Fabia vRS - Recommendations for new brakes

Featured Replies

Our Fabia is about to hit 50,000 miles and has decided it needs new brakes. The car is used primarily by Mrs T for commuting with the occasional longer run but nothing hardcore like a track day. So, do I simply replace discs and pads with OE or is there a better option?

Thanks in advance.

I recently had Brembo front brakes fitted, very happy.

Mk4 Golf R32 brakes- they're nuts!  The car will put unsuspecting passengers through the windscreen.....

Pagid discs & pads are exceptional & standard fitment on porsches, bmws etc...

I used pagid and brembo both really good.

I am thinking of a brembo 4 pot conversion tho.. the 4 pots off a megane or late corsa vxr.. basically a monoblock calliper with the vw 312mm discs..

calipers can be had for around 200 for the pair and then get a mate to machine the convertor blocks orrrr try the Porsche calliper convertor that are already on eBay. They Maybe the same

Just seen you want it for normal driving.. pagid or brembo from eurocarparts.. I currently have brembo on the Fabia and pagid on my Octavia. Both spot on and not expensive, get the coated ones if going for brembo, pagid come standard with coating. Will just look better behind your rims

Just bought a full set of Brembo discs and pads from Eurocarparts for £136, taking advantage of their 30% off offer.

Do these fit under the original 17" alloys ??

Hi mate, well....................

I was informed by people that yes they would.  However, it seems that those who managed to fit them under the original vrs 17" wheels had used second hand discs and pads!

I used brand new discs and pads and found that the pad retaining spring clip, that isn't shown in the picture touched the inside of the spokes, damn!!!!!!!!!!!

So, I used a 5mm wheel spacer that allowed it to clear but found it gave a horrible wheel wobble at 65-70mph.  I wanted to use hubcentric spacers but it seems they're only available on 10mm and above spacer and I wanted to use the smallest possible!  As the pads are wearing in I've been able to drop to 3mm spacers and the wobble is much much less.  I am hoping that in the next couple of weeks with some 'enthusiastic' braking I'll be able to ditch the spacers all together!

My 17" Gigaro wheels have an offset of 41, I am contemplating getting a set of OZ Superturismo or Team Dynamics Pro 3 wheels with an offset of 38 which is in effect what I'm running with the 3mm spacers up front.  But that's only if I can't ditch the spacers!

Hope this helps!

No they're no OZ wheels, just stickers over the manky original peeling centre caps..  Haha!

Yea I thought that maybe the case, I've got a vrs Octavia with the big 340mm discs on and they won't fit a 17" winter wheel and tyre if the balance weights are stuck to the inside... right looks like the 312mm with some brembo 4 pots from a Clio or megane then ;-) or the simple mk2 vrs octavia caliper and discs. Think the fathinlaws superb has 312's too so I'll have a look. The brembo conversion would look ace but just need to get adaptor brackets made if they are not already available

Yeah, I'd go for the 312mm set up had I known what I know after my shenanigans of fitting the overkill brakes!

it is however comical if I let someone drive the car and they put themselves through the windscreen by braking 'normally'.

Just noticed you're in Mackem land.... whereabouts you at?

Some great info in there!

RARB is next on the list.
