Has anyone managed to retrofit a colour Maxidot?

Featured Replies

Anyone?

I asked at the dealers today and was told that it was not possible, and even if it were possible Skoda will not authorise anything of the sort because it might end up needing new wiring looms or BCM etc. to allow the new component to work. I'm slightly dubious personally, but wondered if anyone has actual proof that it's possible.

Oh dear. I reckon some dealers would pretty much tell you a blooming floor mat couldn't be retrofitted :D

They don't 'do' retrofits generally.

I have the colour version, but I don't know how much it can do that a b&w one can't? I believe the lap timer for example can only be enabled in the colour version?

It'd be a big job for what it's worth IMHO

I have the laptimer on my b&w one. I think it's functionality is almost the same tbh,  just the colour one looks much better. You could be right about it being a big (or rather expensive) job for what it's worth though to be honest.

I might wait until one is available at a scrapper's and experiment.

It's not just the maxi dot it's a whole new instrument pack.

Not really possible these days with component protection and too expensive.

Don't waste your money

A used cluster can't be fitted to any other car, at this moment there is no tool that can work on these MQB clusters

A new cluster is the only option and has to be done at a dealer

The whole cluster is definitely a dealer fit unit and covered by component protection. Even dealers have trouble swapping them.

The question is if you took the cluster apart and just swapped the maxidot module whether the car or the cluster would throw a wobbler. That I don't know

Argh bugger! :( Cheers for the advice guys

Looking in the latest brochure Colour Maxi Dot is only £85 inc Vat.  My 230 has it as standard but I would spec it as I think it's worth the extra money.

Mines got it . Nice VRS image on start up. Red door bits when the doors are opened. Would i pay 85 quid extra . NO.

You guys should try being in the situation where a customer can't understand why a colour maxiDot is only £85 as a factory option but costs over £500 to be added afterwards :D

"I've seen online that it's less than £100 for the part and only takes an hour so why's it that much and why do you need both my keys!?"

The reasons for this are that you have your wires crossed and secondly we wish to pair another key and steal your car

I was originally asking for a rough price when I was told it was not possible, I already knew it was going to be expensive and much more so than the factory option. I was just surprised to be told it simply would not be possible/Skoda wouldn't authorise it regardless of cost.

Your post implies that it could be done, just at great expense? If one were to find a second hand one (not likely yet, but in a couple of years or so there might be some at a scrappers somewhere), would that reduce the cost much?

To late & to expensive to retrofit.

At the moment I wouldn't know, I've never tried to pair a used one with ODIS and there's no other equipment that I'm aware of that can do the swap.
