My impressions after the first 500 miles...

Also just noticed the manual states front assist should be deactivated when on ferries or transporters like the channel tunnel.

yes - it depends on their fire detection systems.

This is exactly how it works on my Leon but regardless of whatever maxidot display your looking at you will get a temporary car picture pop up on the display when another car is detected in front.   This is usually when I change lane as the system will start scrubbing the speed soon after, how quickly obviously depends on what gap you've set.

Also, if you have ACC active and accelerate the ACC icon/symbol on the dash get's brighter.  Not sure if it does this on the Superb but worth checking.

Ah yes that's good to know - so there is a pretty clear indication that you are being held back, so to speak.

I use mine religiously so can pretty much tell when it's about to start braking.  Usually when the car icon pops up by the time I've checked mirrors and indicated the system hasn't started braking so it's pretty seamless.

Also, unlike regular cruise control where it will just allow engine braking when rolling down a hill, e.g; you may actually speed up above the limit you've set. ACC will actively hit the brakes and keep the speed bang on.  Your brake lights will light up too.  I tend to disable mine rolling down hills so I don't annoy anyone driving behind.

Thanks for that but unfortunately the adaptations and coding seems to.be quite different on MY17 cars so those options don't appear to exist now (or at least not in the same location). I might do some more searching for it, but I've read in a few places now (in various languages via google translate) that it can't be done (yet) on MY17 cars.

Re. TSR and speed limiter I need to double check later today as for the last few days I was trying out ACC in urban environments, but I don't think it actually limits your speed - I think it just automatically changes the speed at which the speed limit warning sounds.

So on MY17 cars it seems there are essentially 3 different things to do with "speed limits".

1. Is the system in the maxi dot menu where you can choose a set speed and it will bong when that is exceeded. (I haven't touched this as it seemed to work automatically for me).

2. Is the physical speed limiter on the cruise control stalk where you can choose a specific speed and it will restrict you from exceedig that speed (will speed up down hill though unlike  ACC for some reason).

3. The TSR system signifies currently applicable speed limits and seems to automatically adjust the system in number 1 above so that the bong sounds when the identified speed limit is exceeded. Menu settings allow a leeway of 3mph or 6mph to be chosen. Ie if TSR recognises 30mph limit, the bong will sound if you exceed 33mph if you set it on the 3mph setting. This is great, bit I would prefer it to have a more granualar setting, and ideally a percentage setting.

Now, it may be that all cars with sat nav do this and it isn't specific to TSR equipped cars - bit I was pleasantly surprised that even a car with TSR does it.

To clarify, these are the relevant sections from the owners manual about TSR and the speed warning:

IMG_0674.PNG

IMG_0675.PNGSo I would assume this is the same on pre-MY17 cars as it doesn't actually have anything to do with the physical speed limiter, bus does sound like it is exclusive to cars with TSR (even though cars with sat nav but no TSR also know most speed limits, I think).

Another reason to option TSR (In addition to getting the camera for lane assist and high beam asssist).

Yes I noticed the regulation down hills, which was another unexpected and, for me, pleasant surprise. Around where I am there's quite a few speed cameras at the bottom of hills so it helps a lot. I still change down to the correct gear for the gradient however as this should reduce brake wear.

It would be nice if the speed limiter also did this but for some reason it doesn't, which is counter intuitive to my mind.

With ACC I'm also going to have a go at appplying throttle to gently and temporarily override the regulation in certain situation without necessarily overtaking immediately.

If you are approaching a slower vehicle in front and want to pull out and overtake (motorway/dual carriageway stuff) then if you use the indicator the ACC will not drop your speed but continue at set levels. Or even accelerate back to your set speed if it has already dropped.

Thanks, I've been using that function to good effect when as you say you are approaching a slower vehicle, but I was thinking of situations when you are going at your set speed or very near to it (eg indicated 74) and there is a car in front but it is not restricting that speed. But then, that car gradually starts to slow as the traffic in that lane builds or catches a slower vehicle up ahead. Your speed then gradually drops off likewise - sometimes imperceptibly so - and you then end up going more slowly than you'd like. With normal cruise, you'd realise immediately that you are gaining on the car in front and would prepare to overtake. I think it's just a case of getting used to it and keeping half an an eye on the analogue speedo. It's also indicative of what a good cruiser the car is as you don't really get much in the way of other signifiers of speed dropping off or vice versa (eg noise, vibrations etc).

Keep the distance on the shortest one possible, and if you want put the ACC in sport via the Drive settings.

You're right the car can sometimes be left hanging when a (slower) car in front speeds up again, whilst your car is still slowing from the initial detection.

Looks good, thanks. Must just depend on the specific cable and how much bend protection there is before the plug. The one I've currenty got almost got the sliding cover stuck open but luckily I could get a finger in there to move the cable just enough.

I use one of these, picked it up from Amazon for under £2, but as usual they have gone up in price slightly. Works a treat with a short lead or flash drive, no catching on the cover.
